The Village of Mer Rouge is located in Northeast Louisiana almost directly in the center of Morehouse Parish. Mer Rouge is located at the intersection of three major Highways, US165/LA2, LA138, and LA133. The population of Mer Rouge is approximately 850 and  is now on the rise. The Mer Rouge Police Department is a three man Dept. consisting of Chief Lyle Hopkins, 38 year LEO, Sgt. Mike Jordan, 8 year LEO, and Sgt. Mitch Stephens, 14 year LEO. The crime rate for Mer Rouge is low compared to the Parish and surrounding area statistics so most of the patrol time is devoted towards public relations, community policing, traffic enforcement and criminal interdiction.
