Mash and strain blackberries without heating them. To every quart of juice, add 2 C sugar. In muslin bag, tie 4-1/2 t grated nutmeg, 1 T whole cloves, 1 T whole cinnamon, and 1 small piece of mace. Simmer juice and spices over low heat for 25 min. Remove bag and stir in 4 T vanilla extract. Pour into jars to within 1/2" of top. Put on cap and band. Process 10 min in boiling water bath.
Makes a good punch when mixed with equal parts of 7-up or, ginger ale.
