1 C flour
1-1/2 t baking powder
1/4 t salt
1/3 C sugar
3 T shortening
1 egg, slightly beaten
2/3 C milk
2 T jam or jelly
1 can fruit halves, well drained (pears, peaches, etc.)
Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening. Combine eggs and milk. Add to flour mixture and stir well. Spread in well-greased 9" square or round pan. Arrange fruit on top. Bake in 400 degree oven for 40 minutes. Remove from oven; brush on jam or jelly to glaze.
