1/2 c shortening
1 c sugar
2 eggs
3 c sifted flour
1 t nutmeg
2 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
1-1/2 t ginger
1/2 c boiling water
1/2 c molasses
Cream shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Sift flour, soda, salt and spices together, and add to creamed mixture alternately with water and molasses. Beat until well blended. Bake in greased 8x11" pan at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
TOPPING
1/4 c flour
1/4 c margarine
1/2 c brown sugar
2 t cinnamon
1/2 c chopped nuts
Make gingerbread and start it baking. Combine topping ingredients. Sprinkle over surface of gingerbread when it is partly baked. Put back in oven and bake until done.
