GRANDMA'S CAKE

3 Cups flour
2 Cups sugar
1/2 tsp soda
4 eggs
3/4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp lemon extract
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 Cup shortening
1 Cup buttermilk

Sift flour with soda,  baking powder and salt. Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly. Add eggs, vanilla and lemon extract. Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk. Bake in a greased tube pan at 350 degrees for about 70 minutes.

This cake tastes like the one my great-grandmother, Sarah Brannon Rutherford, used to bake and always had on hand in her pie safe. Source: Mary Glass 1
