1. Start with your styrofoam circles and put a small hole in the center of each one. (If you are using a styrofoam ball cut it in half and put a hole through the center.
2. Take the first half and thread the 2' of ribbon through the hole, wrap it around a toothpick and secure it with glue and straight pins on the bottom. Lay the ribbon to the side.
3. Take the chenille stems and place one end (dipped in glue) into the edge of the styrofoam on and angle like this / , place them in starting with an + (one, two, three, four), and then fill in the spaces, depending on how much you want to put in. You can use 8 or 12, I would use 12.
4. Now you have to decide what you want to put in the cage. You can have ivy hanging down, or flowers on the top and bottom, and on the inside, or just flowers on the top and bottom with moss and a bird on the inside. If you want ivy hanging down, you will have to put it in now. To do this trim the stem, and dip it into the glue and insert it into the styrofoam. Fill in the bare spots with moss, glueing it in place. (Make sure the ribbon is pulled through the center.)
5. Repeat what you did with the chenille stems, putting them into the top styrofoam piece in the same order, as the bottom.
6. After this is done. Push gently on the top of the cage and see how much you want the cage to bow out on the sides. It should look rounded. When this is done measure the distance between the stryofoam pieces and attach a toothpick to the ribbon where you want the top piece of styrofoam to lay. And then pull the ribbon through the top hole, and secure it with glue and straight pins. Make a loop so you can hang it up.
7. Decorate the top with flowers, make a large bow for the bottom, and place it in the center. To fill in put flowers and moss around the bow. If you haven't already decorated the inside you can do that now. |
