FLaP members with Cornell grad students and USDA employees with backgrounds ranging from chemistry to physics and genetics ran an EYH workshop in 2002 on the topic of Applied Origami.

The Secret is Increasing

How much weight can a piece of paper support? When is a straight line better than a curve? Find out how folding paper into different shapes affects its strength and stability. Learn about other uses for folding in daily life, like airbag folding, deployment of large telescopes in space, and even houses!

You can download a copy of our handout. See more pictures here.

FLaP members and Cornell math grad students ran an EYH workshop about symmetry in April 2001.

Participants learned how to make cubes from Sonobe' units. You can download and print the handout we used. You can also visit related links. Local libraries have some related books. This workshop was the subject of a poster presented at the 3rd Origami, Math, Science, and Education conference in March. To see Eileen's pictures, visit the folder at our egroups site.

We met at Triphammer Mall in September '00 at the tables outside the laundromat. Pictures of some of our creations are below.
