This site is to honor those MARINES living and dead that fought with HMM-161 at Quang Tri, RVN from May '68 / June '69.
SEMPER FI!

HMM-161 arrived on station as an intact squadron on 17 May 1968. Operations were started shortly thereafter and the squadron supported the field marines with resupply, medivac and recon. The squadron received many awards including a Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Citation, R.V.N Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Color), and R.V.N. Meritorious Unit Citation (Civil Actions Color First Class). The marines manning this squadron received many individual awards for service and bravery. These consisted of Combat Aircrew Wings, Air Medals, Combat Action Ribbons, DFC's and others.


I served as Crew Chief on Yankee Romeo-28 a CH-46D Boeing Sea Knight. We saw lots of combat and hard times but she was still flying when I left the Nam. I have recently been aprised of the fact that She was struck on 05 April 1970.
