For instance, remember the sitcom that starred Peter Cook playing a butler? On one episode there was a running joke where he was attempting to console his employer and her daughter by saying "remember the words of your compatriot Frankie Valli" by which he meant "Big Girls Don't Cry" But each time he would be answered with a puzzled look and a guess at what he meant. "Walk Like A Man?" was the mother's guess. "Sherry, Sherry Baby?" was the daughter's. Eventually, he gave up and, in a wonderfully exasperated voice asked "Am I the only one here who listens to Wolfman Jack?"
I know that doesn't sound too funny but he was great in it.
Peter Cook was always hilarious, in my opinion much funnier than his colleague Dudley Moore. Not that there was anything wrong with Dudley. He was great when they were together, and I loved Arthur. Too bad about all other movies he was in afterwards.
