TWW Colour Cameras.

The first Colour Cameras to be owned by any ITV station were those at TWW where they were purchased for staff training and publicity.

The cameras were EMI type 204 Vidicon cameras using mirror optical splitting and a turret of wide angle adaptors.

The first colour camera production - "Colour One" was directed by Mike Towers (later to become Managing Director of HTV) and was purely as a demonstration to the TWW Board and the company staff. No recording was then possible with the available equipment.

The Cameras were also taken out for publicity demonstrations. Here at a Welsh Eisteddfod

The cameras were operated at 625 line RGB with a special RGB vision mixer designed and constructed by Ken Otway, then assistant Chief Engineer.

Ironically TWW never had the opportunity to radiate colour as the contract for the area was transferred to Harlech Television in 1969.
