Brian: DragonBall Z is the story about an alien named Goku. Goku is a Saiyan, and Saiyan's are powerful, warlike beings.
Drew: Goku was sent to Earth to destroy it.
MATT: WHILE LITTLE GOKU WAS AWAY, AN EVIL BEING NAMED FREIZA ATTACKED AND DESTROYED PLANET VEGETA, THE SAIYAN'S HOME PLANET.
Drew: Fortunately, Goku hit his head when he was little and turned into a caring, honest, all around good guy. He has some adventures in another show, called just plain DragonBall.
Brian: During the regular Dragon Ball series, before Goku hits his head and forgets his plans for world donimation, he kills a Namek, who then (being a asexual species) he spits out an egg, and then Piccolo is born. Enraged in his parent's death, he vows to avenge his father. Piccolo trains and finially gets his chance to fight Goku at the World Martial Arts, it is a great battle but in the end, goku wins, but Piccolo is not killed. Piccolo seems to disappear, training for his next meeting with Goku. and then the Dragon Ball series stops.
MATT: AT THE BEGINNING OF DRAGONBALL Z, GOKU'S BROTHER RADDITZ CAME TO EARTH TO FINISH WHAT HIS BROTHER NEVER STARTED.
Drew:Although Goku died during the fight, was wished back to life by the DragonBalls. Afterwards, they (they being Goku's friends) learn that 2 more Saiyans are coming to Earth, to pick up where Radditz left off.
MATT: BUT THAT'S NOT REALLY TRUE. WHAT THE TWO SAIYANS (NAPPA AND VEGETA) WANT ARE THE DRAGONBALLS, SO THEY CAN WISH FOR IMMORTALITY.
Drew: Yup. Goku's buddies assemble a group of warriors to protect the Earth. The fighters train real hard until the Saiyans show up.
MATT: AT FIRST, GOKU IS NOT IN THE FIGHT. HE'S MAKING HIS WAY BACK FROM TRAINING WITH KING KAI, A POWERFUL TRAINER PERSON, WHILE ALL OF THIS IS GOING ON.
Drew: So, we're left with Gohan (Goku's son), Piccolo (Gohan's trainer), Krillin (Goku's buddy), Yamcha (a desert bandit), Tien (another friend of Goku's) and Chiaotzu (Tien's buddy). First Nappa and Vegeta send out a squad of plant-creatures called Saibamen, who all have a power level of about 1200 (I think).
MATT: TIEN DEFEATS THE FIRST SAIBAMAN, THEN IT IS YAMCHA'S TURN. AFTER YAMCHA DEFEATS HIM, THE SAIBAMEN GETS HIM IN A BEAR HUG AND SELF-DESTRUCTS, KILLING THEM BOTH.
Brian: After that, Krillin is so enraged that he kills three of the four remaining Saibamen. Piccolo kills the fourth. Vegeta is impressed, and sends Nappa to battle the heroes.
MATT: NAPPA DOES REALLY WELL. AFTER HE ALMOST KILLS THE EARTH'S DEFENDERS, CHIAOTZU JUMPS ON HIS BACK AND SELFDESTRUCTS.
Drew: Unfortunately, only Chiaotzu was killed, leaving Nappa pretty much unscathed. After that, Tien is infuriated and rushes Nappa. Nappa handles him easily and slices off Tien's forearm, leaving him unconscious and only three warriors left.
MATT: NAPPA IS ABOUT TO FINISH OFF THE OTHER THREE, BUT VEGETA CALLS A THREE HOUR BREAK, WHERE NO ONE IS TO FIGHT. EVENTUALLY, GOKU SHOWS UP AND, TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, KICKS TAIL. OH YEAH, AND PICCOLO DIES TO SAVE GOHAN. (sniff)
Drew: Vegeta killed Nappa in rage, and only escaped because Goku didn't want to kill him. We realize we aren't exactly up to date on this page, so here's the recent occurences in short story form. Take it away, Matt.
MATT: FIRST OF ALL, GOKU AND THE GANG FIND OUT THAT THE GUY WHO DESTROYED PLANET VEGETA, THE SAIYANS HOME PLANET, IS BACK AT LARGE. FREEZA (THE NAME OF THAT GUY) ALSO PLANS TO GET THE DRAGONBALLS. AFTER A BUNCH OF TRAINING AND A SKIRMISH WITH THE GINYU FORCE, FREEZA'S TASK FORCE TEAM, VEGETA DECIDES TO JOIN FORCES WITH KRILLIN AND GOHAN, WHO ARE THE ONLY ONES AVAILABLE AT THE TIME. EXCEPT FOR A YOUNG NAMEK THEY MEET ALONG THE WAY, NAMED DENDE. VEGETA, GOHAN, KRILLIN AND DENDE FINALLY GET TO FACE OFF AGAINST FREEZA. FREEZA CONTINUALLY GROWS AND CHANGES FORM DURING ALL THE FIGHTING. IN ONE FORM, HE GROWS SHARP HORNS AND CHARGES KRILLIN, WHO IS HOLDING A TERRIFIED DENDE. KRILLIN DROPS DENDE AND GETS IMPALED THRU THE CHEST. AFTER KRILLIN FALS AND SINKS INTO THE OCEAN, GOHAN GOES POSTAL. WHEN FREEZA RECOVERS, HE TARGETS GOHAN, BUT SWITCHES AND KILLS DENDE. EVENTUALLY, GOKU AND PICCOLO JOIN IN, AND VEGETA GETS KILLED. SOMEHOW KRILLIN COMES BACK TO LIFE, AND THERES A HOLE IN HIS ARMOR BUT NOT HIS SKIN. OUR THEORY IS THAT DENDE HEALED HIM BECAUSE KRILLIN SAVED HIS LIFE. GOKU TAKES HIS TIME, BUT HE FINALLY GETS ENOUGH POWER TO MAKE A SPIRIT BOMB ABOUT A MILE WIDE. FREEZA GETRS CRUSHED AND BLOWN AWAY AND APPARENTLY, SO DO GOKU AND PICCOLO. THAT IS WHERE TODAY'S SHOW LEFT OFF, AND THAT IS WHERE WE ARE LEAVING YOU.
Brian: Uhh.... what he said. New DBZ videos are popping up in Walmarts around the country. So now you can buy individual videos at a bargain price. (shameless plug)
MATT: DRAGONBALL Z IS A COOL SHOW, WITH A PLOT THAT HAS MORE TWISTS AND TURNS THAN A ROUGH WATER SLIDE.
Drew: Even so, DBZ is a cool cartoon that shows every weekday on the Cartoon Network at 5:00 pm. I think.
MATT: IT ALSO COMES ON AT 12:30 AM(HALF-PAST MIDNIGHT) ON THAT SAME CHANNEL ON SATURDAY NIGHTS.
