Near midnight at the Jacksonville Amtrak Station, the Palmetto has just arrived and is getting the washer. The Miami section of the Silver Star is seen in the background, with the lead F40PH visable. All of this in December 1990.

Now we have the Tampa Section on our right, and Miami Section on our left. Both trains will be combined into one for the trip north. The Palmetto that arrived earlier has pulled south into a wye to be ready to tommorrow's trip back north. The old schedule would put three trains into the station at the same time. Today, the pratice of splitting trains in Jacksonville ended in 1996. However some new proposals may bring this practice back.
