Green
island in the midst of the blue Adriatic open sea, surrounded by
numerous small silver islands. An island and archipelago that like
by a miracle escaped the blessings of civilization. Lastovo. Maybe
the last piece of the former Mediterranean Homer came and Bayron
took his inspirations from. Lastovo. Means a vacation in harmony
with untouched nature; a vacation in the ambience of traditional
architecture; a vacation where you will enjoy healthy and fresh
island food from the fields and the crystal-clear sea; a vacation
with wine already drunk by the roman emperors. Lastovo. Lastovo
belongs to the south Dalmatian group of islands; it occupies a surface
of 53 sq. km, and the highest peak is Hum with 417 metres. 1228
inhabitants live on Lastovo in two bigger settlements: Lastovo and
Ubli, Lastovo is wonderful island of Mediterranean vegetation, and
with vineyards and olive groves, which form the background of a
delightful landscape. The coast is very well intended and the whole
Lastovo group of islands and islets number 34. There are villas
and flats for hire, and a small hotel Solitudo. Lastovo was in the
possession of the Dubrovnik Republic in the Middle Ages, after the
Second World War and until 1990, it was, for most of the time, a
closed military base, and it is only now accessible to visitors
from abroad. The main village of Lastovo is especially interesting
- for its urbanization and for its preserved ancient customs - especially
for the performance of plays and processions on Shrove Tuesday.
