Los Tigres Del Norte "Corridos Prohibidos"

WANTED: Pedro Marquez-Accused Mexican mafia boss, major drug trafficker, and war lord. CAPTURED: Forever in Mexican folklore. The Norteña group LOS TIGRES DEL NORTE features Pedro Marquez in the song Una Camioneta Gris, in which he is portrayed as a hard working, decent man on the run from the law. Personally, I like the cartel and find it a great source of literary plots, like the epic mini-series Kingpin which aired last year. However, both the U.S. and Mexican government wants to put a halt to this form of musical innovation. Many times, the drug lords themselves pay to have there selves immortalized in song. Despite the controversy, LOS TIGRES remains one of my favorite NARCO-CORRIDOS (meaning “drug-runners“) groups and continues to produce quality music year after year. This album originally debuted in 1992, but remains popular today and has been included (certain songs) on soundtracks and radio play. Bottom line: Great music, good cause, controversial, and Spanish.
