Wars 2 Delivers Greatness
The first
Advance Wars video game for the Game Boy Advance/Game Boy SP was
one of the best strategy games I have ever seen. It has all of the
elements that make a great game. Plot, action, and thinking. Yes
folks, thinking. Advance Wars 2 Black Hole Rising gives the
fans of Advance Wars 1 even more to chew on. The graphics have been
improved and a brand new plot has been slapped on. The style of
the game has turned to a more serious side and now has better overall
layout of the menus and maps. In Advance Wars 2, there is a whole
host of things that makes this game as great as it is.
The campaign
mode allows you to play through the story and accumulate points,
which can be used to buy maps and other playable characters for
different modes. In versus mode, up to four players can link up
via the link cable and play against each other. You can also practice
against the computer. The design room allows you to create your
own maps and to edit your Commanding officers colors. Battle maps
mode is like a store in which you can trade in points for maps and
characters. The war room mode allows you to play against the computer
and save your score and accumulated points.
For each
map, there is a variety of units. From helicopters to battleships
to submarines, this game has a unit for every purpose and they all
blend together perfectly. The different types of terrain can also
influence the types of units used. Mountains can only be traversed
by infantry and air units, so this limits the use of ground forces,
such as tanks. Wide-open ocean encourages ships to battle it out,
while also allowing air units to play a major part. Advance Wars
2 was a very well conceived game and would keep any dedicated fan
playing long after completing the game. Advance Wars 2 truly stands
above the rest and left many other strategy games in the dust.
