| By: Griff Rees Splashdown is one of the greatest water games that I have ever played. Splash down has some of the greatest graphics and songs on it. So for all you Waverace 64 fans, this games for you. Splashdown was my first PS2 game, so naturally I played it constantly. A lot of people have never heard of Splashdown but it deserves a lot more coverage. It has some of the most amazing graphics for any game of this genre. Splashdown has been voted to have the best water physics of any game. Not only does it look great, but you also feel every bit of wake in your controller. One bad thing (if you’re looking for this aspect) is the tricks. There are lots of them but they take a little skill to pull off. You need to get tons of air on the jumps and be sure to get seated in time or you bail and usually lose the race. I you get fairly skilled at the tricks, you can also try to pull off some “super” tricks. These tricks all require the use of more than on button, or the analog stick. It’s too bad the tricks suck or it would really add a lot to the game. The multiplayer is pretty good. There are many different head to head scenarios; including a trick attack, HORSE, and of course racing. Splashdown also has a great soundtrack including; Sum 41, Blink 182, and SR-71 (what’s with the numbers????). Some of the songs get annoying though. There are some short movies when you win a race or beat a character, nothing to really dwell on, or even have in the game. They’re pretty pointless. This game will appeal to a lot of people. Its great for younger kids since it’s “E” rated and easy. It’s great for all you Waverace 64 fans who (thankfully) didn’t buy Gamecube. All in all this is a great game that shouldn’t be overlooked for some minor game hindrances. I don’t play it much anymore now that I have GTA3 and MGS2 but it’s still a great game.
