As
the third installment in he ever Tony Hawk Pro Skater series, THPS3 doesn't
live up to all the expectations that I thought it would. Overall
it is a great game, but that goes without saying. It's all the small
details that I was disappointed with.
Gameplay
THPS3
is the usual Tony Hawk game. You select a professional skater in
the career mode. You will progress through the game by completing
various goals. Every few levels there is a tournament in which you
will compete for gold silver and bronze medals. As you finish career
mode more levels and skater are unlocked. Pretty classic.
Multiplayer.
Awesome. That about sums it up. The Tony Hawk series is known
for its superior multiplayer. With the classic graffiti, HORSE,
and trick attack modes, THPS3 will knock your socks off with fast paced,
head-to-head action. With the addition of network compatibility,
THPS3 is a must.
The
editor is nice. That's as far as I'll compliment it. It seems
that Neversoft just threw it in there to get people off their backs.
The editor actually sucks, and I'd rather play THPS2 than this game.
Visual
The
graphics in this game are great. All of the polygons are virtually
gone. I can't imagine how much better THPS4 can look than this.
The rail and manual balance meters got a face lift and look pretty damn
good. Also there is the addition of some gore in this game.
You can't see bones popping out of people's leg, but there is a fair deal
of blood.
Cinematics
The
end of the game movies are awesome!! All of the movies are live
action (real people). There is a movie for each skater and a bloopers
tape which is sick and funny at the same time. Even though they
are at the end of the game, they deserve a lot of praise. Try to
unlock them all!!
Lasting Appeal
There
must be a lot of lasting appeal in this game, since it is the third in
the series. I myself am getting tired of Tony Hawk and much prefer
Shaun Palmer's Pro Snowboarder (review coming soon). The multiplayer
is enough to keep you there, but not much else.
Sound
There
is not a game out there with a better soundtrack then THPS3. With
a ton of awesome artists, this music will please almost any skateror poser.
The grinding/skateboard/bone crunching all sound great, there wasn't much
to improve upon though.
Controls
The
controls in THPS3 are the classic Tony Hawk controls. Nothing has
changed, nothing has improved. They're just as great as ever.
