Budweiser
DOWNTOWN
HOEDOWN
AT HART PLAZA IN DETROIT
* 2002 Review *
by AmericaJR
Instead of shorts and suntan lotion it was hats and gloves at the 20th Annual Budweiser Downtown at Hart Plaza in Detroit, MI from May 17-19, 2002. It had to be one of the coldest hoedowns ever. The temperature never made it over 50°. Linda Lee from WYCD told the crowd to cuddle up by your neighbor.
The music was pretty good. Kevin Denney sang his hit song "That's Just Jessie" on the lower stage Friday afternoon. Emerson Drive sang their hit song "I Should Be Sleeping" on the main stage on Friday evening. David Ball sang his song "Ridin' with Private Malone" later that night. Aaron Tippin finished the night off with many songs including the latest "Where the Stars and Stripes and Eagles fly."
On Saturday, Little
Big Town will sing "Don't Waste My Time." Steve Holy will sing his hit
song "Good Morning Beautiful" George Jones is headline Sunday night with
a bunch of his songs. On Sunday, Jeffrey Steele will sing his new song
"Good to Go" while Tracy Byrd headlines with "Just Let Me Be In Love."
It seemed like there was less concession stands
this year possibly because of the cold weather. The official hot dog of
the hoedown is Dearborn Sausage. This year's sponsors are Budweiser, Farmer
Jack and Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort. The official radio sponsor
is WYCD Detroit's Best Country.
The former radio sponsor of the hoedown was W4 Country. Over the last few years, they changed music formats and dial positions to 102.9 FM. W4 Country had banners in the sky promoting the station this year. They also made beach balls for the crowd at the hodown with their logo on it.
See you next year for the 21st Annual Budweiser Downtown Hoedown at Hart Plaza in Detroit, Michigan.
