Phelps Cleaning Up in Athens

The 2004 Olympic Games
are now under way in Athens, Greece. It is the third time that they
are being held in Athens, home of the 1st Olympics.
Carly Patterson has won
the All-Around Title for Women's Gymnastics. She's only 16 years
old and the Gold medal winner has made history. She is only the
second American athlete to win the All-Around Gymnastics title.
She scored a 9.725 on
the beam. On her solid floor routine, she got a 9.712. On the vault,
she got a 9.375. Carly has done something that most little girls
dream about. She's won a gold medal in the Olympics.
Carly Patterson said,
"It's just cool that little girls look up to me."
She added, "Hopefullt I can put some conifence in them
and want to make them train harder to get this dream, too."
Patterson was born on
February 4, 1988. She was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and lives
in Allen ,Texas. She is only 4'9" tall.
Michael Phelps is the
American swimmer who's attending the University of Michigan. He's
been favored to win all the gold medals in the swimming sport.
He's already won four
gold medals. He's got two other medals under his belt giving him
a total of 6 so far. He won the 200m individual medley wtih a time
of 57.14 seconds.
Phelps currently holds
several world records in the sport of swimming. The athlete said,
"This is the greatest feeling in the world in the sport
of swimming."
The swimmer has three
more competitions to go. He has the opportunity to win 8 medals
and tie the world record holder, Aleksandr Dityatin from the Soviet
Union.
Michael Phelps was born
on June 30, 1985. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland but lives in
Towson, Maryland. He is 6'4" tall and weights in at 195 lbs.
The 2004 Olympic Games
are being broadcast on the networks of NBC in America. It includes
local NBC affiliates, MSNBC, CNBC and USA Network.
