By: Manoj Gopalkrishnan
2002 MENS NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
#1 Maryland 64
V
#5 Indiana 52
In a game filled with sloppy passes, poor shooting, and numerous turnovers by both teams, Maryland managed to knock of Indiana by great leadership by their 3 seniors. Maryland finally won its first championship. Maryland could have easily blown out the game from the starting tipoff. However, Indiana just like in all the other tournament games wouldnt give up without a fight. They finally took the lead with 44-42. Steve Blake then answered with a 3 and Maryland from there went on a 20-5 run to close out the game.
The game also featured numerous droughts that lasted several minutes by both teams. Juan Dixon led the Terrapins with 18 points en route to his final game.
