Detroit's
all-star goalie Curtis Joseph earned his 40th career shutout on
Tuesday night. The Red Wings beat the Minnesota Wild 4-0 after they
lost 4-0 by the same team on the day before.
CuJo has
had four shutouts already this season. He only had to make 18 saves
during the whole game on Tuesday. The scorers for the Red Wings
were Igot Larionov, Sergei Federov, Henrik Zetterberg and Tomas
Holmstrom.
Larionov
scored the first goal of the hockey game. It was 1:57 into the first
period. He said, "Had a good start, quick goal and it got
everybody going. Had to win this game tonight."
Sergei Federov
scored 1:28 into the second period on a power play. He was assisted
by Larionov on that shot. It was Federov's 31st goal this season
and his 395th during his career.
Holmstrom's
goal was his 20th so far this season. It came at 9:44 into the third
period. He said, "Now we got the first goal. It was a totally
different game. They had to open up a big more."
In other
news, Steve Yzerman got a cut on his forehead at the end of the
first period. He was accidently hit by Jeremy Stevenson. Yzerman
got stitches and came back during the second period. So far, Yzerman
has played in 11 games since his return.
The Detroit
Red Wings are currently 45-19-9 in the NHL Central Division. They
are leading their division with 102 points over St. Louis which
has 92. Their next game is on Thursday at San Jose at 10:30pm.
