DETROIT RED WINGS TEAM NEWS

Will Hockeytown Live Up to its Name This Year?

by Steve Gralewski

The Red Wings Started out the season this year on a good note with opening night at The Joe on a 2-3 victory over the LA Kings.  The wings went on to win two more games then losing two and winning two more.  The last dry spell the wings faced was 1 win in their last 7 games from October 25th until November 8th.  The only win came with Curtis Joseph in Net and recording his first shut out of the year by blanking the flames 3-0.  The first game vs. Nashville did not go well at all, where not only did the Red Wings lose, several players were fined for a grand total of 9 fighting majors in the one game.  Steve Yzerman was among the many penalized players with several 2 minuet penalties, two 10 minute UN sportsman like misconducts, and finally a game misconduct, where Yzerman almost refused to leave the ice until he made sure the referee heard what he had to say.  In a strange coincidence, there were NO NHL supervisors at the game that night.  The wings looked on top of their game Saturday night against Nashville as they faced them for the second time this season, where they were winning 3-0 until 11 minutes left in the 3rd period where a nice shot slipped past Curtis Joseph, and from there on, “you-know-what” hit the fan, where Nashville was able to win the game 4-3 in regulation.

Monday night was a different story when Chicago came to Detroit and fell behind early in the 2nd period when Paval Datsyuk scored 1:32 in to the period.  The last 2 goals came 1:38 apart from first Kris Draper, and second Brendan Shanahan, who is now on a 3 game goal streak.  Detroit Ended the game with a 3-0 win and Dominik Hasek posting his 2nd shut out on the season.

Detroit looks to face Dallas in Dallas on Wednesday the 12th at 8:30, which we can view on Fox Sports Net.
