Annual Report
The organization has a visualization of an integrated rural development in a long term perspective, recognizing the village economy in line with the self reliance is, according to the organization, the only visible alternative of development against the challenges of so called industries, promotion of micro-enterprises for income and employment generation, woman development through empowerment, education, training, income generation and capacity building activities of the organization all the activities are carried out mainly with local resources.
The organization has, since inception, built up its own development fund and the credit and thrift societies at the local and grass root level, as result the organization could take up a good number of projects with cent percent local contribution. All the project activities taken up by the organization through local initiatives have proved quite successful, it is the long term target to set-up and promote community chest in each village along with other resources for self-sufficiency of the villages, all the project initiatives with local contribution are a step towards attainment of sustainability, self-help and reduction of dependency relations, a brief statement of activities are given below:
ADULT EDUCATION:
The organization is striving for eradication of illiteracy from its operational area. It is trying to support in achieving the aim of Government of India for 100% literacy by the year 2000 A.D. I literate persons in the Abe group of 15-35 years are primary focus under this programme. VKSK is running adult education center in each of the village for this age group. In addition to adult education all of them were made aware about their rights and duties, were made conscious to raise voice against injustice and fight for social equality. The three R’s, applied knowledge and awareness – these three point objectives of the adult education programme were quite successful. During the literacy campaign, special emphasis was said on the women population. Special camps were organized in 22 villages to inculcate aptitude for literacy among the women.
NON-FORMAL EDUCATION:
Due to poverty and non-realisation of importance of education many school going children of this area discontinue their education before appearing the secondary examination. Keeping in view the taste, need and convenience of these school ousters, the organization has taken up the non-formal education programme. Four non-formal education centers have been set-up, through which 120 children of the area have successfully been imparted education and reenroll in formal schools, for higher education. The programme will continue till 100% non-school going children of 6-14 years age group are covered through such centers, and brought into mainstream of education.
Under these activities VKSK is focusing on the youth, especially educated youths and destitute women. About 125 youths and 200 women from 10 villages have been imparted vocational training in the trades of goat rearing, tailoring, food processing, mechanical skill development, etc. apart from imparting vocational training, the organization also tries to provide them financial support to become self-employment by setting up their own enterprises. Trained persons are helps to obtain loan from the bank, or theft and credit societies. The organization also helps them to establish linkages with the markets, to ensure better profitability.
NETWORKING:
VKSK has also established a networking of Ngo’s, youth groups and workmen’s forums of Beed, latur and Dhule district. It has been providing necessary support and guidance to the members of this network is so that they can collectively make attempts for government schemes and programmers designed for their development and betterment. One more porpoise of this be work is to share the experience and knowledge for wider explicability. Resource mobilization forms the local resources is a major task of this network so that self-sufficient could be achieved.
LEGAL AID CAMP FOR WOMEN:
Various camps were organized in rural as well as urban areas on legal awareness, particularly for women, basic objective of these comps was to protect the women against drudgery, exploitation and harassment by the family members and /or the society. The participant women are now aware of the laws and acts, relevant to their protection. They are also know the places where they can approach in case of any harassment or exploitation. They even know how to approach police station and how lodge fir, they are also aware of the separate cell, established for women at police station and at courts, as a spin-off of these camps, women have now formed a forum and all cases, pertaining to exploitation and harassment of women are raised through this forum is a collective voice.
THRIFT AND CREDIT
Indebtedness is a very common phenomenon in the operation area of VKSK for want of appropriate places of credit, villages are compelled to approach money on a very high interest rate. That is why there are many persons, who inherit indebtedness from their ancestors, spend their lives in repaying the interests rate and pass on this process to the next generations. It is on the top of the agenda of the organisation has two fold objectives in this regard, and, its social workers are continuously engaged in conscientisation of target communities, as a result of these efforts, thrift and credit groups are taking shape in each of the target villages of the organisation. The villages can approach banks and co-operative societies and also for seeking loans from there.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Few centuries ago, there was a famous poet in north India called Ghagh, whose poetry was focused on methods and practices of agriculture. He was highly expert on different aspects of agriculture. He was quite appreciative of independent nature of agriculture and preferred it over to trade and business, service was the worst work according to him. The organization also feels that for self-reliance of villages, it is imperative to bring back the glory of agriculture. Today’s youth are no more attractive towards farming and they prefer even a petty job over farming. VKSK is trying to inculcate aptitude among youth by making it a more profitable venture. The organization is providing training on different aspect of agriculture and its allied. The youth are being trained to make maximum yields form the available piece of land.
FAMILY COUNSELING CENTER:
The organization has set-up a family counseling center at chakur circle level. This center has been set-up to resolve the quibbling issues of the couples and families and also to protect vulnerable sections, especially women against atrocities and brutality. The center is facilitated by a counselor and a social case workers, for providing individual and collective counseling to the problem persons. The complicated cases, particularly related to crime against women, are referred to the court. The center is functioning will the objectives of resolving the conflicts at family level, rehabilitation of problem persons in families and society, improving family ties and reducing cases of separation and divorce.
PREVENTION OF DRUG ABUSE:
The scourge of drug addiction is fast serenading in the operational area of the organization too. Youth population is easily falling in this particularly due to their frustration. The organization is committed for total eradication of drug abuse from the area. Volunteers and staff of the organization are spreading awareness in this regard. Various awareness camps have also been organized indifferent villages to highlight the consequences of drug addiction. This program has been implemented in the rural as well as urban areas. Counseling, meetings, awareness generation through local media, such as puppetry, etc. are the tools for spreading the message. The organization is also working for the treatment and rehabilitation of the drug addicts. The organization has been widely acclaimed in rural and urban areas for its efforts to control the drug abuse.
ENVIRONMENT PROMOTION:
The organization is taking up environment awareness programme in rural and urban areas. Awareness in being generated on the contributory factors for polluting the environment and measures to protect and promote environment, Macro issues, such as global warning, deforestation, side effects of chemical fertilizers, etc., are taken up in awareness generation meetings. As a result of environmental campaign many families have started taking preventive measurers at their level.
Health development
A comprehensive health package is being undertaken in all project villages of the organization. The health programme carry the theme that prevention is Better than cure. For pursuance of this theme, VKSK highlights the health & Mental Health related issues, causes of common Mental illness diseases and preventive measurers. Due emphasis is also given on personal hygiene and sanitation. General awareness is also spread on symptoms of common diseases, so that people can identify the disease at early stage and could take necessary steps.
Reproductive Health & Child Development
To make community realized about the reproductive and child health problems of the community, its causes and sources of solution existing within or around the community . To identify values, norms, traditions, practices and beliefs related to family planning and reproductive health through focus group discussions. To establish one health clinic and promote health personnel in each of the target village for all time availability of the health services. To safe delivery, ante & post natal care, immunization, and diarrhea management, etc, to bring down IMR by at least 70/1000.To establish linkages with the government health system for immunization of children and pregnant women, IFA tablets and referral services .To cover all eligible couple under family planning awareness programme and provide essay and all time access to varied kind of contraceptives To form children’s group to used for creating awareness on different health issues. To ensure safety measures for the community against infection, communicable and water borne diseases, by educating the community on preventive and promotive, health system. To provide family life education to the adolescent group and family planning education to all eligible couples of the villages
AIDS CONTROL:
Families of this area are not out of threat of scourge of HIV/AIDS. Men folk, from many families, seasonally seasonally migrate to urban areas, particularly during off seasons of agriculture, in search of job. There is a chance that they may come back to their families with virus of this deadly disease. As a preventive measure, VKSK launched a campaign to make the families aware about HIV/AIDS, particularly, its sources, primary and secondary symptoms and the results of this disease. Families were also told about the preventive methods of checking the spread of HIV/AIDS.
WATERSHED PROGRAMEE:
In order to provide irrigation facility, control wastage of rain after and creating employment opportunities in the target areas, watershed programme was undertaken by VKSK in six villages of Chakur circle. A part from training the farmers on maintaining the land fertility, maintaining water reservoirs, livestock and of forestation, the organization also undertook creation of check damps. With active participation of farmers, 10 cement dams, 10-soil check dams, 100 earthen structure and 100 lose borders. Plantation was also undertaken in 100 hectors around the dams, to check soil erosion and improve the environment.
WOMEN EMPOWERMENT:
The women of the area who had to face a dual subordination-class subordination and male subordination –have been able to organized to be articulate. They have been come out form the long-standing purdah system. Literacy programme, non-formal education and peasant organization have made them also organized and conscious citizens. The women have fought against un touch ability, that was prevalent in the villages, and brought about a feeling of unity, fellowship and co-operation among the people of all castes and creed for the purpose of united struggle for development. The women have put an end to all prejudices and stood against injustice and male chauvinism. They have also introduced the practice of eating and drinking with all people, notwithstanding un touch ability and caste division.
The organized women folk of this area have raised a social crusade against dowry system, child marriage and against domestic violence. They have also contributed free and voluntary labour in renovation of village tanks and in other construction works. An attitude of saving has been developed among themselves; consequently women are saving jointly in their groups and mobilizing their saving for development of its members. This saving programme is called Mahila Koch. A new way of life has been started by the women folk of this area. The whole women development programme is gradually shifting towards gender equitable development process.
BIOFERTILISER RESEARCH CENTRE
Biofertiliser (e.g. biological nitrogen fixers) can substantially save the application of nitrogen fertilizer the most economic crops. The a Biofertiliser that is being produced by Vikas Krutti Sanshodhan Kendra Latur, Post Box No. 24, Maharashtra, India. VKSK has been successfully propagated and tested on several crops of economic importance to Maharashtra. The crops tested were green leafy vegetables, fruit species, plantation crops, horticultural crops, and forest species. As a result of the successful trials, the VKSK Latur, P. Box No 24, Maharashtra India was formed in early 1994. The currently produced crop enhanced reduces the importation of chemical fertilizers and herbicides by 40% and chemical inputs by 30% to land for vegetables and other food crops. This means a saving of RM400 to RM600 per hectors per year a reduction in the input of chemicals into our soils and hence environment. This is very important for cleaner and healthy food production for the future. Vikas Krutti Sanshodhan Kendra Latur is an organisation engaged in the manufacturing and marketing of Biofertilizers since the last four years. These Biofertilizers are a result of relentless research spanning over a period of three decades. Vikas Krutti Sanshodhan Kendra Latur. Is the only organisation offering Biofertilizers in liquid and carrier formulations? These products can be used for any crop/soil or in any climate. These innovative products are non-toxic, easy to apply to carry and have a shelf life of two years. Vikas Krutti Sanshodhan Kendra continuous efforts and research work have been ducky appreciated by the Government and Semi-Government organisation in the country. These products have been tested in labs (National Chemical Laboratory) and on land by various Government and Semi-Government institutions and has been used over thousands of hectares for the last three decodes. Vikas Krutti Sanshodhan Kendra is producing three types of Biofertiliser Rhizobium, Azotobacter, and Prospect Solubalising Bacteria.
