| WHY HAS GOD ABANDONED AMERICA? |
| Murderous barbarians have wounded the United States. Throughout the culture we suddenly hear the name "God" invoked by the media, the politicians and the mainline clergy. But have we called upon Him in sincerity? Or only as a mental crutch to soothe our fears? Are we asking the right questions? Or are we so blind that we cannot see the Sovereign Judge behind all historical events? We ask Mr. Bush how long he will hesitate to retaliate. Shouldn't we be asking our Creator why he has abandoned us to bloodthirsty infidels? We brag to each other about our military strength. Oughtn't we rather be tearing our clothes in deep shame for our own great sins: abortion, sodomy, Sabbath-breaking, tolerance of heresy and unbelief? Our leaders call for us to burn wax candles and observe vacuous "moments of silence". Silence? Hadn't we better cry aloud - by Name - to the True and Living God who can enlighten our shallow, pleasure-addicted souls? Mr. Bush has called for a day of prayer and remembrance. Where is the penitence and repentance? Let us not forget our fallen countrymen; but let us remember also our Maker and His perfect laws! How arrogantly we "progressive" moderns fancy ourselves superior to our ancestors. Yet when Mongols and Turks pressed against the gates of Christendom, all Europe once knew how to repent in fear before the King of Kings. Not us. We are more afraid of mere men than of Him who rules life, death, hell and heaven. My fellow Americans, let us be done with this self-deception. The God of the Bible is no personal therapist to assuage our emotional weaknesses. Every nation that forgets Him will be cast into hell. Is America's hell now in session? We certainly should mourn our innocent dead, without deluding ourselves that our social values are flawless. We must seek out and destroy the guilty cowards - but out of justice, not prideful malice. When we have made an end of comforting ourselves with Psalm 23, let us go on to challenge ourselves with Psalms 74, 79 and 80. In many ways these United States are in open rebellion against the Lord of All. Let us cry out, not for revenge on others, but for mercy on us. Jesus instructed people who were struggling with horrible tragedies with this warning: "except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish". |
