In this section, I'll explain the significance of pigeon jewelry in India. People here in the States think that pigeon jewelry is just for 'show'. Well, it is & it is not. Pigeon fanciers in India put jewelry on their pigeons to make them look even more beautiful. The jewelry that a pigeon wears represents the pigeon itself !!    

ALL the pigeon jewelry that I have IMPORTED from India is HANDMADE. It is meticulously made piece by piece. A person has to be an expert jeweler/goldsmith in order to make the pigeon jewelry. LOOK at the pictures yourself !! YOU BE THE JUDGE !! Almost all of you'll look in awe as to asking yourself, How in the world would someone make that ? As some of you out there might know, most of the jewelry in the States is indeed handmade, but it is made by people trying to "make a quick buck". They buy beads from a local craft store & they make it themselves. I have nothing against people making their own jewelry. It just devalues the REAL THING that I have, that's all. Get my point ? My jewelry is NOT the common barrel type that some of you might be familiar with. My jewelry is custom made for me. I had to go through a lot of hassle to get it here in the States. I'm here to eduacate people about the importance of pigeon jewelry in Indian culture. I don't want to sound cocky, but if it wasn't for me, people here would NEVER get to see the REAL pigeon jewelry from India in their lifetime. Am I correct ? Most of you reading this might think about getting the jewelry on your own, but just think for a minute. I mean, if you send money from here to some idiot abroad in hopes of getting pigeon jewelry, he is going to run with your money !! There is nothing a person here can do about it. It is TRUE, no ? Atleast I helped people understand the purpose of pigeon jewelry in India. Some of you might wonder, 'Wow !! Those Indian pigeon fanciers are really nuts about their pigeons, aren't they ? Well people.... YOU GOT THAT RIGHT !!!!!

     There are different kinds of jewelry for different kinds of pigeons. The flying birds have their own style, the show pigeons have their own, the breeders their own, & so on... In India, a pigeon fancier's way of putting jewelry on his pigeons is unique from region to region. Most of you might not know, that there are OVER 30 different languages in India. The languages differ from state to state. No, Really !! I sometimes can't understand a word of what a   person is saying even though he/she is from India. It's just that a person is from another state. So you see, jewelry customs & styles differ from state to state.      Now, the flying pigeons get the bells. As a kit of flying, performing pigeons fly overhead, the jewelry that they're wearing makes a pleasant sound. It is a wonderful experience. The bells come in 3 different styles. Silver, Brass, & Copper. Mostly, the Copper is used extensively because, it is lighter than both, the Brass & Silver bells. The sound is also different. Copper jewelry makes a thin/high pitched sound, which is far reaching. On the other hand, the Silver & Brass make a slightly louder/deeper sound. The Copper bells are smaller than the other two kinds.

     The breeders get the beaded jewelry. Sometimes though, they might be fitted with the Silver & Brass bell jewelry. The bells jingle as the cock bird struts his stuff, or goes buggy. The beads can also be worn by a show bird. It is a different kind of beaded jewelry though, the kind I have pictured with metal rings in the Green, Red, Yellow & Orange jewelry pic. It is WAY, WAY different than the regular beaded jewelry. It is also so darn expensive to make, since the work involved in making that particular kind is very intensive indeed. That jewelry is only given to the birds that obvioulsy don't fly. Otherwise, it can be a costly mistake on the fancier's part.

    There are many different colors and styles of beaded jewelry. They all have 3 tiers of beads held together by a SINGLE thread of plastic, kind of like a fishing line. If you look at the pictures carefully, you'll see the detail in the beads. The unique way each different kind is arranged in the sense of design and color is really amazing !! One doesn't have to be a genius to imagine the effort & time that goes into making each and every single piece of the jewelry.
