The VC Valiant
Introduced in March 1966, squarer than the model before this (the AP6) there were 65,634 VC Val's made, they had a long body appearance but were actually very similar sizes to earlier Valiant models like the AP5/6. The VC is only ¼ inch longer than the AP6. Came with synchromesh in all forward gears. Engine options were a more common 225 with Single barrel carburetor (Compression ratio: 8.4:1) slant 6 or a 273 (4.474 L) V8 with Carter two barrel carburetor (Compression ratio: 8.8:1). Transmissions on these cars were one of a 3 speed "TorqueFlite" automatic - (column shift) (ratios - 1st - 2.45:1; 2nd - 1.45:1, 3rd - 1.100:1; Reverse - 2.2:1) 3 speed "TorqueFlite 8" automatic - (console shift) (ratios - 1st - 2.45:1; 2nd - 1.45:1, 3rd - 1.100:1; Reverse - 2.2:1). Drum brakes were used front and back but front discs were available in some V8 models and optional for all models in late 1966. The front of the VC Valiant has 2 round headlights, a grill with 6 horizontal bars with indented sides forming a large v shape in the middle, about 1/3 of the length of the grill.
