IN KEGWORTH 1932-1974
Barton Transport, the Chilwell, Nottingham, based bus operator, had several garages in its far flung East Midlands Empire.

One of the smaller ones was the six bus outpost
at Kegworth, a village located in North West Leicestershire on the A6 Trunk Road.

Throughout the 1920s Barton operated services via Kegworth to Nottingham and Coalville but it was in 1932 that they acquired the business of Kegworth bus operator Herbert Farrar and his garage which was located on Market Place.

In 1936 Barton built a new garage in Ashby Road
to provide increased accommodation for the buses required on the 10A service to Loughborough,  duplicates to through service 10 Nottingham -Loughborough route and various works and school journies.

The aim of this web site is to track the history of Barton in Kegworth, the services, buses and people who worked as drivers and conductors.
Built in 1948, Duple bodied, Leyland Titan PD1 no.507 (JVO 237), rests at Kegworth Garage in the late 1960s prior to a journey to Loughborough via Sutton Bonnington and Hathern.

The site is the work of Phil Stevens, born 24 Sep 1947 in Kegworth. I have been fascinated by Barton's buses for as long as I can remember.
