The Trail Report is a volatile entity, requiring input on a regular scheduled basis. Even with regular input, information can sometimes get missed or the wrong information will be produced and desseminated, creating problems for anyone who uses this information. So this page will provide links to the National Park Service, Olympic National Park Trail Conditions, and Olympic National Forest Recreation, Current Condition Reports for their trail reports.
Information about local conditions and other trail information can be obtained by calling Dennis Boyd, Peninsula Chapter's Trail Boss, at (360)683-3630, or Larry Baysinger, the West End Trail Boss at (360)327-3611. Either Trail Boss can be e-mailed at: bchw_peninsula@yahoo.com
The Olympic National Forest now requires a trailhead parking permit to park within 1/4 mile of all established trailheads. The annual Northwest Forest Pass is $30.00 and the daily Northwest Forest Pass is $5.00. The annual pass will be valid for one year from the month of purchase. The passes are sold at all Forest Service offices and numerous retail outlets. They are also available by phoning 1-800-270-7504 or via the Internet (click here to check this out.)
Waiving the Northwest Forest Pass on certain days of the year is a new feature started in 2000. Free days on the Olympic National Forest are: National Fishing Day (2nd Sat in June), Mother's Day and Father's Day.
The Olympic National Park fee schedule is a bit complicated and best described on their site at ONP Wilderness Permits
The Peninsula Chapter of BCHW is in a process of compiling and mapping trails in the Olympic Peninsula area that are not charted by a state or federal agency, look here for upcoming information about where to acquire these maps.....
