The fitting disposition for union with God is not that the soul should understand, feel, taste or imagine anything on the subject of the nature of God, or any other thing whatever, but should remain in that pureness and love which is perfect resignation and complete detachment from all things for God alone. -- St. John of the Cross
WHAT HAS HE ASKED OF YOU?
Reference Hebrews Chapters 2, 3, 4
In the bringing of many sons to Glory -- those who share in the Heavenly Calling, are told to fix their thoughts upon Jesus --- The Apostle -- The High Priest -- who learned obedience by what He suffered... Who was tempted in all ways as we are and yet did not sin.... Who was faithful to the One who appointed Him. The writer of Hebrews gives very clear and pointed counsel to the many sons being brought to Glory. They will be tested and tried... for unless there is "perfect resignation and complete detachment from all things for God Alone" as St. John of the Cross shares from his own experiential knowledge (epignosis) -- we cannot enter that Perfect Rest, for "perfect resignation and complete detachment from all things for God Alone" is the Sabbath Rest for the people of God. In the Old Testament type and shadow of this entering in, unbelief and disobedience kept the sons from entering that Rest. Will the many sons being led to Glory, to the Perfect Rest be faithful to the One who would appoint them? Will they learn obedience by what they too must suffer? Will they truly lose their soul life for the sake of gaining His Life?
This is the struggle even now. Will we willingly enter that Rest, which is His Absolute Will in all aspects of our lives... will we let go completely now of our independence as "the iron enters our soul" [Ps 105]... as His Will becomes our will, no longer separate, but one... OR will we hold onto the "it" that is being required?
There is a choice being made even now... at this late hour. Many have held onto "it"..... wanting "it" and "God's Will"... hoping they will not ever have to really give "it" up.... yet, by fixing our thoughts upon Jesus, the Son.. we know all sons will be required to give "it" up, for the sake of the Kingdom.... for the sake of this relationship manifested in Jesus and the Father. A relationship based upon absolute obedience to the One who appointed Him as "Son over God's House" ... a relationship disclosed a union of Will.. Jesus praying to the Father, not My will, but THINE be done.
"See to it brothers, that none of you has a sinful -- unbelieving heart -- that turns away from the Living God. But encourage one another daily -- as long as it is called "Today", so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness." [12,13]
