Onlookers gather to watch the batteau 'Frank Padget' navigate Balcony Falls

This is a replica of 19th century cargo carrying boats that traveled on Virginia rivers
before canals were constructed and on rivers without canals. It measures almost 50 feet in length.

The Virginia Canals ans Navigations Society is an organization dedicated to studying and preserving the history of Virginia's inland waterways.
