Anglo-Scottish Cup

This cross-border tournament’s official name was the International League Board Competition, but thanks to the sponsor, was re-titled the Texaco Cup. Entrants were restricted to those clubs that had just missed out on gaining a place in one of the three European club competitions. Sixteen clubs (six each from Scotland and England and four from Ireland) entered the first series, but by 1972 the Irish sides were dropped due to the political unrest at the time.  The last season saw the English part of the draw increase to sixteen clubs drawn into four qualifying sections.

Each entrant was to receive cash sums depending on the round reached -

First round £1000-£1500

Second round £2000

Finalists £2500

Winners £3500

By 1975, Texaco had decided to withdraw their sponsorship but the tournament continued as the Anglo-Scottish Cup.
