The West of Scotland FA was formed around November 1877 to cater for ‘junior’
clubs in the Glasgow and district that through having no ground, were
excluded from joining the Scottish FA. The term junior is used loosely in
this context as, in 1877, there was no such division between the grades as is
seen today. At the time, all clubs were theoretically of one level, it was
just that those of a higher standing were regarded as senior. In December 1877, the fledgling organization decided to hold a Cup
tournament. At least two competitions were run between 1877 and 1879 before
the association was wound up.
