First of all we need to say that webdesign and content is always a subjective matter. No matter how hard we try to be objective, our personal likes and dislikes will often play an important role in judging. The judges will stay anonymous, and are asked to be absolutely discret in order to fullfill their objective duty. Whoever fails to do so will be dismissed from the jury panel. Helpful Hints: Keep it simple! Choose pleasing colors that match your background and use them throughout the page. Nothing is more disturbing than different colors on each site or colors that just do not match very well. Like mentioned above, nothing is more disturbing than non-matching & blinking colors. It gets even worse if the WebMaster tries to use all existing colors of the rainbow. It distracts people from the actual beauty and the important information. Design your own graphics. There are so many programs out there free to download over the internet - there is absolutely no need to borrow .gif animations, especially since they are seen on any ordinary website. Make your site easy to navigate. Nothing is more confusing than getting somewhere where you can't get out again. Please include navigation on every page, even if it is a simple button returning the viewer to the main page. Nobody likes having to continually hit the "Back" button on their browser. It gets very tiring after awhile. First impression is important. If you want visitors to stay on your site, make it as pleasing as possible for the viewer. Try to keep things "together": put related topics together, list important links first, etc. Make it clear for the visitor what this page is all about. A guestbook-button as the first link is not a good solution Everyone wants their guestbook signed. |
