Alright I'm back from the Baton Rouge show.  Overall I had a great time.  I
got to the amusement park that it was at a little after
6pm because I
thought it would only be $13 to get in after 6, but since it was a "special
event," it was full price (about $25).  Had I known that, I would have
gotten there a lot earlier and gotten my money's worth.  The concert was
supposed to start at
8pm, so I found my way to where it was.  Greg Raposo
(formerly of
Dream Street) and Jump 5 were opening.

It was kind of weird the way they had it set up.  There were seats in the
front all the way back to the soundboard.  Then a big open area barricaded
behind the soundboard.  All of this fenced in.  There were people lined up
to watch outside of the fence off to the side too, as that would technically
be a better view than in the very back of the open area.  I found out later
that to get a wrist band that would get you into the front section you had
to pay $20.  I decided to not do that.  I ended up pretty close to the front
of the barricade between the sections, so not too far from the sound board.

Earlier Aaron had been out in front of the stage and near the fence where I
had been waiting.  I got a few pictures there, but it's hard to take a
picture from the other side of the fence.  He also at one point got up on
one of the trailers that were there as dressing rooms and took a picture of
the freeway, or maybe the city.  But it was pretty cool to be just on the
other side of a fence from him for a few seconds, even though he didn't stop
to sign much.

The opening acts were decent enough.  Greg Raposo only played for about 15
minutes...singing to a backing tape.  Jump 5 played...er, sang to a backing
tape as well, for a half an hour or so.  I didn't know much of their stuff,
but it wasn't bad, and they danced great.

Aaron started a little before
9pm.  Just like we had heard, it was a ton of
cover songs.  Medlies actually...parts of songs put together.  Only on a few
of them did he sing the whole thing.  Mostly it was just a verse and a
chorus of each.  I was pretty disappointed in this.  I came to see Aaron
Carter songs, not dozens of songs I've heard thousands of times already.
But I tried to enjoy it for the most part.  It was hard not to think how
much better it would have been if he was singing "Another Earthquake," "Get
Wild," or "Bounce" just to name a few.  But oh well, here's the set list in
order:

It was done a little before 10:30pm, so right around an hour and a half.
About the time of the Michael Jackson songs, I started noticing that people
were going under the barricades and no one was stopping them, so I did the
same and got in about the 5th row of seats for the Stevie Wonder songs.
People were leaving after every song (kids getting tired I guess), so by the
time he started doing his own songs, I was right by the stage, maybe 4 or 5
people back (there was an area with no chairs between the first row and the
stage where people were standing).  That's when I got my best pictures.
Still a little dark, but much better than the ones from by the soundboard.

So that part was AWESOME!  Not only was I so close, but I was finally
hearing songs that I wanted to hear!  As far as the cover songs went, I
thought "Celebration" sounded cool...really heavy bass line.  "Stayin'
Alive" was cool...interesting to hear him sing falsetto.  "Start Me Up" also
sounded good for some reason.  "Here I Go Again" was kind of a surprise.  I
think if he was gonna do a hair band song, "Pour Some Sugar On Me" by Def
Leppard would have been a better choice.  But other than those, the cover
songs were just kind of there...not bad but not great.  "California Girls"
was about the only one I thought he didn't sound all that good on.
Everything else was passable.

I ended up getting the setlist off the floor of the front of the stage.  I
guess either I was the only one tall enough to see it up there, or the only
one tall enough to reach it.  So that's how I knew the whole set...I don't
have THAT great of a memory. :)

Jump 5 and Greg Raposo were signing stuff at the merch booth after Aaron was
done.  I didn't wait in line, but got a couple pictures of them from off to
the side.  I liked
Dream Street, so I told Greg he put on a good show and
shook his hand.  I could have gotten something signed, but I didn't want to
annoy the people in line who had been waiting patiently.

So here are some of the better pictures.

Enjoy...

Jarod
