I am a quadriplegic currently working on a degree in mechanical engineering. As an automotive enthusiast I refused to settle for a basic van to drive, so I purchased a 1950 Chevrolet Panel truck instead. This truck is structurally solid with only surface rust and minor fender damage. Following a complete frame off restoration, it will offer a unique form of transportation that I can operate from my wheelchair. The conversion will include a wheelchair lift in the rear, Buick Riviera front wheel drive system, custom frame, lowered floor, as well as many smaller modifications. This work will take three to four years to complete since we are only able to work on the truck during my summer breaks from school.
Update 6/04
As many return visitors have noticed, I haven't updated this site in a long time. About two years ago I was able to purchase a minivan, which provides transportation for the time being. I do still plan to build the truck, however am waiting until I have the time and money to do it right. I am currently trying to decide what I want to do for my graduate project, and am heavily leaning towards a rolling chassis for my truck. Check back for further updates.
