"There is a lot less to futures trading than meets the eye."

RESOURCES FOR THE COMMODITIES FUTURES TRADER*

The internet is a rich resource of information and tools for the Commodities Futures Trader. I will share with you some of my favorite sites and why I like them and perhaps they will prove helpful to you. As you visit these sites you will find links to many other helpful sources.

        FUTURE SOURCE

This is without a doubt my favorite source. In my estimation it is the best for delayed quotes when following your trades throughout the trading day. On most sites offering ongoing delayed quotes you must do a lot of "clicking" to switch back and forth from quotes on, say, grains to quotes on treasury bonds, and you usually see only the current month when you may be trading further out. On Futures Source you can go to "custom quotes" and design a page to suit your needs, bookmark it, and then design and bookmark as many more as you need with only the quotes you need for that particular day or week. You can add new pages as often as you like and have as many as you want. You can also custom design the charts you need to assist you in planning your trades. On top of this there is an abundance of up-to-date information for the trader, and, get this: it's all for free. If you get serious about commodities futures trading you will want to bookmark this site.

        FUTURES MAGAZINE

A great site with some really good stuff about the market. You'll just have to take a look. I'm sure you will be impressed. While there go to the Trader's Library and read the online book (interview) about The Phantom of the Pits for some insight into trading that will mean much more to you than anything I might say. Check it out! You guessed it - it's free!

        FUTURES NET

Another source for great information and again it's free. This site, as the above, contains reports and daily recommendations or forecasts by experienced traders who are specialists in the various commodities such as grains, energy, etc. The Proview Report from Futures Net will be e-mailed to you free each day before the markets open and give you important information to consider when planning your trading day. Check it out, if for no other reason than to see one of the best designed home pages on the net. This page has so many pictures, colors, images, windows, etc., that you can get in a good nap or go for a cup of coffee while it downloads, but it is worth it when it finally gets done. (I'm assuming it does get done. I always get tired of waiting and go on to something else I've bookmarked from the site before they changed the home page to the current extravaganza. Somebody send me an email and let me know if there is really an end to it!)

        CHICAGO BOARD OF TRADE

The Chicago Board of Trade is a good source for entry level information on Commodities Futures Trading. Check out their Futures and Options Resource Center. They have an excellent program for paper trading which will give you a real-life feel for the market. Also a source for quotes, market information and updates.

        THE TRADER'S LIBRARY

An excellent guide to sources for related books and publications.

        BROKERS RATING GUIDE

A list of most brokers along with comments by traders about their service. A good place to start if you are looking for a broker.

        MIKEY'S METHODS

This guy has been around the block in commodities futures trading and developed some methods you need to learn. He puts out a daily email which you can subscribe to at a very modest fee and makes available his "methods" which most think are a heck of a lot better than Ken's stuff. Mikey's daily email containing his insights into the markets and a suggested "papertrade" or two is about the only one I recommend. It is worth the money! A must for the novice trader.

        S.M.O.T.A.S.S.

The most complete list of Commodity Futures Trading links I have found. This comprehensive list is broken down and indexed by subject and will save you a lot of time. Site also has other excellent trading information. Check this one out!

(I could go on and on listing bookmarks...but you get the idea. You will find many more links as you browse the net. Good trading!)

        READ THIS:

As valuable as these free quote services are you should remember they are delayed quotes and will probably not accurately reflect what is happening in "real-time." You should always check current prices with your broker before placing a market order. While following delayed quotes will help you to spot daily trends and plan strategy for your trades, be aware that at any time and in any market the possibility exists for prices to change drastically in just a few minutes and the risk of substantial loss is always present.

*And remember: Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results. The risk of loss exists in futures trading. CYOA!
