COLAGE
Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere

In an effort to cover all bases of the LGBTQ community The Family Tree
is attempting to bring a chapter of COLAGE: Children of Lesbian and
Gays Everywhere to Tallahassee. COLAGE was founded in 1990 by six
teenagers of LGBTQ Parents at the Gay and Lesbian Parents Conference.
During a workshop these young people were gathered in a room and
realized that they never met any other children before that were just
like them; children of LGBTQ Parents. With its mission of empowering
people to make the world a better place for children of lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender parents and families, COLAGE is quickly
growing with chapters across the nation as well as Canada, Sweden, and
England. The organization provides several outstanding programs and
activities such as: Email Discussion Groups, Summer Internship, Pen
Pal Program, Scholarship for Undergraduate Students, and International
Volunteer Program.

As a mother of a 7 year old I feel that it is very important that my
son know that he is not alone in the world, that there are other
children with a unique family like his. It is my hope that this
chapter will give these children positive insight into the lives of
their parents as well as affords them the opportunity to develop
friendship with other children just like them. I am currently in
search of parents who would like to assist myself and The Family Tree
in making this dream a reality.

COLAGE Tallahassee will be hosting its first meeting Sunday April 3,
2005 at 4:00 pm, if you are interested or would like more information
