(Affair:  A matter causing public scandal and controversy.  American Heritage Dictionary).

• Mix 1,000 – 2,000 foreign born laborers, many of whom do not speak English
• Bring to attention of railroad builders, a fledgling power company, and a few enterprising building and mining companies
• Add two or three dozen hard-headed businessmen with a penchant for running saloons accoutered with gambling devices
• Spice with 100 to 200 ladies of the night
• Locate along the banks of the Snake River at the head of Hells Canyon and allow to simmer in temperatures ranging from 10 to 100 degrees F. depending on the season.
• Allow mix to work hard and play hard for several seasons.
• Begin systematic removal of railroad and power crews by the hundreds along with carpenters and other construction workers and a few businesses including houses of ill repute.
• Observe increased competition and proliferation of illegal practices among remaining population.
• Add one tall, dark, and handsome cowboy who thinks he may be running from the law.
• Touch up with one beautiful, naïve, young school teacher.
• Surround with a few dozen honest, God-fearing farm folk.
• Stir in the best o f gospel and rollicking dance tunes.  Commingle participants with law enforcement officials consisting of an honest sheriff, a politically motivated district of attorney, and a State Governor bent on bringing adequate protection under the law to the decent citizenry of his State, and watch the fireworks (literally).
• Garnish with the beauty and grace of the Governor's personal secretary who demonstrates the purity and humility of a Sir Galahad and the courage of a Sir Lancelot.
• Assemble all of the above in a fictitious account of the unvarnished truth, and you have The Copperfield Affair.
• Sit back, relax, read, and relive the final two years of Gomorrah on the Snake.  Does virtual reality get any better than this?

About Me

My first priority during the last twenty years has been to watch my grand children grow and mature.  The oldest is now attending Community College; and the youngest is yet to be born.  I can safely say that in my ten years' of employment before seeking a college degree, and the thirty subsequent years in educational endeavors, there has never been a dull moment.  But I have quite possibly become more engrossed in my avocation as a writer than with any of the other career interests in my life.  I just wish I could seize the moment to fully share with you the enjoyment I have experienced in this pursuit.
