Bienvenidos a la pagina oficial del
primer coral latinoamericano de Vancouver
Welcome to our website
Vancouver's first Latin American choral ensemble
The chorale was born out of a group of Venezuelan friends who would get together each year to sing Venezuelan Christmas music in the community. Eventually, we felt the need to expand our repertoire outside of the Christmas theme and to include music from the rest of Latin America as well, and so FUSION LATINA was born. We are not professional singers, but are committed and enthusiastic and greatly enjoy being able to express ourselves in our music. Thanks to our talented director, Fabiana Katz, a professional with extensive training and experience, we were able to make our vision a reality. The countries reperesented by our members include Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico. Our repertoire presently includes music from Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela and Argentina, and we continue to add music to represent, eventually, all Latin American nations.

CBC Competition for Amateur Choirs 2006
Earlier this year, we entered the CBC Competition for Amateur Choirs 2006.  Fusion Latina was one of
3 entrants from BC in the Pan Cultural Traditions category. We were chosen to go on to the quarter-
finals. We are absolutely delighted to be in the company of such elite choirs as past winners  Chor
Leoni, Phoenix Chamber Choir and the Exultate Chamber Singers.  I am sure we will be a regular in
this festival and we'll be able to show our commitment and enthusiasm and our growth year after year !!
What's going on

Earlier this year, we released our very first self-titled CD. It's mazing how quickly things happen when there is a focused intention shared by the whole group. We had the good fortune of being supported in this endeavour by Simon Fraser University, who provided the 'studio' in which we recorded and who also duplicated the CD at no charge! We were also able to make this project a reality thanks to the generosity of spirit of David Ramos and Gab Laurence, our recording engineers, who donated their talent, their time and their equipment to help us.

We are selling it for the very affordable price of $10. That's $1 a song!! This is in part a fund-raising effort to help us get to Cuba next year to participate in
AMERICAN CANTA V, an international choral festival taking place La Habana March 2007.

If you would like to support us in this endeavour, you can purchase our CD by sending an email to

SUMMER 2006
We gave our very first formal concert June 25, 2006, with resounding success! The concert held was at St Mary's Kerrisdale, who has supported us warmly and enthusiastically from the beginning; we sang to a packed house, on a beautiful, hot Sunday afternoon. We had the great pleasure of sharing the stage with the darling of the Laitn community, Peruvian musician/poet and Andean instrument specialist, Rene Hugo Sanchez, who was there with friends Sean Preston on guitar, and Dave Capper on cajon. The audience just loved them....and so did we! It must have been close to 30 degrees in the church, but everyone was there, with smiles and dancing shoes on! We had a great time, we laughed, cried, danced, clapped... and afterwards we treated everyone to an incredible buffet of latin sweets, courtesy of the singers. We hope to make this the first of many, many more. Thank you to all who came out to support us.
