                                                        THE BIG KICK-OFF: 2003-04
12 AUGUST: SEVENOAKS TOWN 0 CRAY WANDERERS 3 (Wood 39, Taylor 57, Turner 63)

9 AUGUST:  HYTHE TOWN 1 (Yianni, 13) CRAY WANDERERS 1 (R Dimmock, 29)

Tuesday 12 August 2003: It was a baptism of fire for newly-elected Kent League member club Sevenoaks Town when reigning champions Cray provided the opposition for their first home match. A bumper crowd of 241 at Greatness Park saw the Wands stride to a commanding 3 - 0 win. Jamie Wood - an early substitute for the injured Richard Dimmock - cracked in the first goal on 39 minutes. Strikes by James Taylor and Phil Turner just after the interval put Cray in cruise control. POST-MATCH QUOTES: David Gray  "Better than Saturday!" ANDREW GIDLEY: "Your boys are looking good again this season".

Saturday 9 August 2003: MAD DOGS AND ENGLISHMEN. In heatwave temperature, reigning champions Cray began the 2003-04 Kent League campaign with a scrappy 1 - 1 draw at Reachfields. Cray had to come from behind after Michael Yianni, a constant threat on the right flank throughout the game, burst through to put Hythe ahead on 13 minutes. Cray's equaliser on 29 minutes was a "family affair" with Paul Dimmock sending in a cross from the right wing for his brother Richard to power home a far-post header. The general verdict was that a draw was a fair result, but it was Hythe's breakaway attacks in the second half that went nearer to adding to the scoreline. POST-MATCH VERDICTS: Ian Jenkins (Cray's player-manager) "I was happy with the result." Joe Francis (Cray's player-coach): "We got out of jail today."

MAN-OF-THE-MATCH - voted by the Wands committee: So far during 2003-04: Maidstone United - David Gray ; Hythe Town - Paul Dimmock; Sevenoaks Town - Paul Dimmoc

         CUP FIXTURES 2003-04

FA Cup: Cray have been numbered among the clubs who have to play in the Extra Preliminary Qualifying Round this year. It means a trip to Saltdean (near Brighton) on 23 August. If Cray win that game, they will immediately be back in FA Cup action a week later on Sunday 31 August at home to Pagham, also of the Sussex County League, in the Preliminary Qualifying Round.

FA Vase: It's a bye for Cray until the 1st round on 18 October.

London Senior Cup: It's a visit to Brimsdown Rovers (near Enfield) in the 1st round, during week commencing 13 September. Cray will look to avenge a disappointing  3 - 1 defeat three years ago on the only other occasion they played there.

Kent Senior Trophy: Cray enter the competition in the 2nd round on 3 December, at home to Sheerness East of the Kent County League. (Mmm, just think of that gorgeous, yummy, cold weather on 3 December!). The winners will be away to Thamesmead Town or Beckenham Town in the 3rd round.
