ABOUT US |
|
Chywoon Farm |
|

|
Chywoon Stud is situated in the heart of the Upper Eden
Valley on the Cumbrian/North Yorkshire borders. On the top of a hill over
looking the fells, a ruined castle and a church, a far place from where
most of our miniature horses originated from in Texas country. Summers are
warm and pleasant but the winter can blow cold and test the hardiest of
horses. Our miniatures have adapted well and grow good winter coats but we
haven't expected them to winter out. We are easy to find by car being in
the middle of the country between the M6, the A66 and the A1, north bound,
and a good train service to Penrith and flights out to the USA from
Prestwick, Glasgow, where most of our horses first felt the UK soil and
weather! |
|
American Miniatures |
|
Our American Miniature Horses have been
selected from the best US bloodlines available. Our particular likes are
towards the ROWDY and RAMUNDO breeding, and our senior stallion
COMMANDERS FIRST EDITION is a direct grandson of both stallions, he is
30" tall and continues to produce consistently small stock with his
likeness very evident. Our mares carry a lot of Hemlock Brooks Egyptian King and various other Hemlock breeding following those lines, with some
Bond, Dell Taras, and Sligo breeding. . We have three stallions at
present, our second stallion is the red and white NXS DUFFYS RUSTY NAIL
who is BOND breeding on both sides of his pedigree. and thirdly our new
edition of JC RAZZLE DAZZLE who combines the Hemlock Brooks and Bond
breeding. he is a silver dun pinto and it is hoped he will produce his
colour and style into some of our 2005 foals. We are very pleased with
the herd we have established over the past 3 years and would like to
thank NXS MINIATURES and DRAGONSLAIR MINIATURES both in Texas for
providing us with the foundation stock we are so happy to be associated
with. |

Gypsy Cob Horses |
|

|
Apart from American Miniature Horses, Chywoon
Stud is graced with the beautiful Gypsy Horses that have become more
popular in recent times with folks other than the travellers and
traditional coloured cob enthusiasts. There has been much said as to
whether these are cobs, tinkers, romanies, etc etc and so we just like
to call them Gypsy Horses as after all it was the gypsies who have put
the work into maintaining such a neat type of horse known for its broken
colour and abundant feather. The Gypsy horses here at Chywoon are of the
old fashioned type, all of which will be over 14.2hh and nearer 15hh. In
our opinion if they are not capable of pulling a living wagon (bow top)
then they are not a true example of the breed. and yes, it is a breed,
and any traveller / gypsy will be able to tell you how his horse is bred
and quote you as many generations as you wish to hear, just because it
is not written on a fancy piece of pedigree paper, it doesn't mean to
say that's its breeding is any less important. Stallions and good
broodmares can change hands in this fraternity for telephone numbers (i.e.:
thousands of pounds) . |
|
|
We like the coloured gypsy horse but can also appreciate a good solid black, in our experience in
breeding these horses you need to keep a solid black in your breeding programme to keep the black and white ones from becoming a whishy washy black. The best
example of a true black and white that I can give you is Priscilla Cox's
CDF Frankie purchased from us in 2003. The gypsy
horse is a good tempered, kind, willing horse who can be trusted with
the smallest child, the oldest grandma, and all the families dogs. They
are loyal, loving and put their all into their work and enjoy pleasing
their owners. A gypsy horse is at its happiest being driven down the
country lanes at a steady trot choosing the pace herself and stopping
when she is ready. there is no greater feeling and sound of the
clip clop, the breeze, the smell of horses sweat, and the feel of the
reins lightly balanced in your hand and to see her ears twitch with anticipation of your next word of
encouragement. |
