| Info for 2008 Season Posted Aug 18th Great vacation in southern California - skated daily in relentless good weather. Missed all the rain here. Also skated many laps of the Circuit in Montreal Sunday. Regular classes resume this week/weekend Posted July 20th I will be giving private lessons this week through Friday, then will take two weeks of vacation. Group lessons will resume the week of August 11th. Posted July 14th With summer season there are many more requests for private lessons and daytime lessons. Call or preferably email to reserve a slot for your private lesson. Restarted my training pgm last week and managed a 50km skate in Hamilton Sunday with Peter Von Rhijn. We were really flying, mostly thanks to Peter, so I'm getting confident about being in shape for the Montreal 24 hour race in early September. Posted July 5th The second Street/Trail/Practical skills clinic of the year was held this morning. There should be skaters ready for another one on July 20th. And the first intermediate level class of the season has been scheduled for Friday 6:30pm on July 11th. We'll be covering backward movement, crossover turns and scooter turns. Posted June 6th With increased demand, I'm scheduling more introductory lessons for beginners, and longer lessons (Never Evers), at discounts compared to regular group rates of $20/hr. Posted May 26th The first Street Skills Clinic of the year was held this weekend, with formerly timid skaters rolling over drains, flying down hills, hopping up curbs and jumping off them. Afterward, I received this wonderful email from one of the participants: "Stephen I would like to say that your classes have been amazing in terms of how far you have been able to bring me in sooooooo short a time. The detail you go into and the way you present it has been nothing but joy to me. I can't state i more strongly ...... you are an amazing teacher and have enabled me to progress from zero to total confidence in a few short weeks. Thank you. Steve P." Saturday, I finished second overall, by a fraction of a second and first in my age group in the half-marathon race in Detroit Posted April 29th The first ever Never Ever Class was held on Sunday. Students and instructor learned plenty. Posted April 21th First big weekend of the year. I'm scheduling the first Never Ever Class for this Sunday. No need to feel pressure or embarassment because you've never done it before. Everyone in the class will be like you - absolute novices. Posted April 15th Sunday, in addition to holding three classes, I got in a little training on the Hamilton trail. And mighty good it did feel. Posted April 7/8th The 2008 season will finally be starting this week. One of the classes will be called "Never "Evers" especially conceived for those who have no experience whatsoever at skating, inline or ice, or other balance sports. Posted March 25th I attended the Bike Show this month (worked at the City of Toronto Cycling Committee booth) and bought several lovely new helmets for this season's rentals. I still haven't inline skated outdoors for obvious reasons, but just came back from three days of Cross-country skiing in the Laurentians. I've been regularly ice skating at Varsity arena as well, and once a week on short track ice speed skates at the Ice Galaxy. Even got in a few good workouts on Grenadier Pond (High Park) on the Nordic Blades. I used them in a 50km race on the ice of Great Rideau Lake in January. ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ 2007 news Posted Sept 27th: I won my age group at the Montreal Inline Marathon Sept 8th, then attended the USSG Inline Instructors Convention in Duluth Sept 16th. _______________________________________________ Posted Aug 20th I won my age group in the St Paul Inline Marathon this weekend and will be receiving a lovely trophy. It was wet and cold, but winning is warming. Posted Aug 5th Back from Southern California and a 50 mile skate from Oceanside to San Diego. Posted July 23 I attended the inaugural Chicagoland Marathon on the weekend and had a podium result in my age group. I returned in time for two Sunday evening classes. Recent new skaters are progressing excellently, stopping and turning confidently. The Montreal 24 Hour race went very, very well. You can read one report by a member of my team here Posted July 9 No weekend classes this week. I'm at the Montreal 24 hour race. Posted July 2d Started out 3 new beginner groups today, plus some pretty fancy skills for the intermediates. One skater did one leg slaloms, and sliding hockey stops. Yesterday I skated the Cambridge Marathon. I won my age group and picked up a shiny gold medal. My time was faster than winners of 2 of the other 3 age groups. I'm looking forward to the Montreal 24 hour inline race in less than two weeks now, but will be holding classes as usual next weekend the 6th and 7th --------------------------------------------------------------------------- May 26th Had a great race this morning , winning my age group in Detroit. I met several members of the team of ringers - The Flying Fossils - we've put together for the Montreal 24hour inline relay race this July. May 21st What beautiful weather! I taught classes all day Saturday then spent Sunday and Monday mornings racing up and down the Hamilton Beach Trail. And the skating students all leaped ahead in their abilities.. With the nice weather they're practising more and it really shows in the lessons. It's so gratifying to see the skaters go from being barely able to stand to confident striders. Part of the lessons have been held on the track so the skaters can stride without worrying about stopping or traffic and they love it. April 30th The Refresher Clinic had a large turnout today, surpassing expectations and we covered all the beginner and advanced beginner techniques. The skaters said they loved it and want to do something similar again soon. So I'll advertise an intermediate clinic to be held in two weeks Apr 27th There was a pro photographer at our Sunday morning group skate on the Hamilton Beach Trail. The pictures were phenomenal. Posted April 8th Despite the most early season interest ever, the weather has so far caused potential students to get cold feet about actually participating. See "Upcoming" for classes with places still available. ----> Or call or email to make an appointment for your private lesson alone or with family and friends. Short track videos end of indoor season ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- EVENTS AND NEWS 2006 August 22d 2006 Stephen Fisher - Professional Skate Instruction is an official sponsor of the Juniors on the Canadian World Inline Skate Team heading to Korea at the end of the month. August 14th We spent the weekend at the 200M banked track in Harriston, ON, training with the Canadian Inline World Team heading to the World Championships in Korea at the end of the month. I managed to keep up with some of them some of the time. J. Shu, who started the season as a beginner in my instructional programme attended too. He speedskates now and is looking good. July 31st A new advanced beginner class got going with very talented skaters. They snaked through the tumblers and performed sharp parallel turns around the cones. July 1st Won the gold medal for my age group at the Cambridge Canada Day marathon this morning. April: Over the winter I acquired a new instructor certification with the USSG - the United Skate Schools Group. I also added a number of kids' skates and protective gear to my rental fleet. It's all available to rent with lessons. |
