| Kurt Haunreiter was born in 1966. He grew up in the Pacific Northwest and his artwork has been inspired by the First Nations Haida style. Interested in both painting and carving, his carving style is based in that of the Bavarian Alps - Kerbschnitzen or chip carving. Kurt has been painting in the Haida style for over 20 years. Many of his designs adorn bent wood boxes. In 1998 he began expanding his carving to include the chip carving style. Self taught, he includes this into his wood working projects; boxes, crucifix, and name plates. He has also been a photographer for over 30 years. Given his first camera by his Uncle, Don Bruce, and taught how to first develop B/W photographs. His experience came from using one of his uncle's Leica cameras. Later, he finally left the analog world and retired his Contax for a Nikon D70. |
