The hikes vary in difficulty from easy to strenuous. The difficulty of each hike is described in our Schedule, which is published every 4 months. The hike leader's name and phone number are included with the hike description so that he or she can answer any questions about the hike.
How long are the hikes?
Each hike is different. Distances range from 5 to 12 miles. Elevation gains range from flat to 2500 feet. Please choose a hike that fits your abilities.
Who are the hike leaders?
Our hikes are led by club members. Some have considerable hiking experience, some may be leading their first hike. Everyone is encouraged to lead a hike on their favorite trail.
Where do you hike?
Our hikes are on various trails in the area. We range from Big Sur in the
south, to Point Reyes in the north, and to Yosemite in the east. Usually the
hikes are within an hour's drive of Hayward. See our Photo Scrapbook.
Do you carpool?
Yes. We meet at one of 3 locations in Hayward, Castro Valley, or San Lorenzo and carpool from there. Passengers pay the driver an amount based on the distance driven and expenses such as parking fees and bridge tolls. Some hikes employ public transportation.
How many people go on each hike?
That depends upon the hike. Most hikes range from 5 to 15 people.
Do you have any kind of meetings?
Yes. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month (except December) in the meeting room of the Casa Sandoval retirement center. Casa Sandoval is located at the corner of 2nd Street and Russell Way in downtown Hayward. The meeting starts at 7:00pm. After a short business meeting we discuss past and future hikes. Sometimes we have speakers or a slide show.
How do I get the schedule?
The printed schedule is mailed out 3 times a year to our members. Membership is open to anyone over the age of 18. Minors may participate in our activities with written permission of a parent or guardian. The dues are a mere $5 per year. We are currently experimenting with distribution of the schedule via email. If you would like to see a sample schedule, please try our Electronic Waiver.
