'Idol' Tour To Feature Hits By Outkast, Alicia Keys, Beyonce
Imagine "American Idol" with a Prince theme week instead of Barry Manilow. Or top 40 — as in Outkast and Britney Spears — instead of big band.
Or just check out one of the 50 dates of the American Idols Live Tour and give your imagination a rest.
The tour, which kicks off Wednesday in Salt Lake City (see "Don't Expect To Hear 'She Bangs' On This Year's 'Idol' Tour"), will feature a few highlights from the season, but for the most part it'll be more contemporary than anything fans saw on TV.
And look for the performances to be better too, as each singer will be entirely in his or her element, at least for a song.
In other words, expect Jon Peter Lewis to play guitar, John Stevens to sing a couple of standards, and Camile Velasco to salute her idol, Lauryn Hill.
Lewis will be doing Outkast's "Hey Ya!"
"It's kinda interesting putting your own take on modern music," Lewis said. "I'm not Andre 3000 by any means."

What's Next For The 'American Idol'
Finalists?
Clay
Aiken proved you don't have to win "American Idol" to succeed in
entertainment, and now a number of former contestants are showing
you don't even need to make the final two.
From the first
season, Tamyra Gray, who co-wrote what will be Fantasia Barrino's
first single, released her long-awaited debut album Tuesday. RJ
Helton has a hit Christian album and just signed with Beyoncé's
father, manager Mathew Knowles. Vanessa Olivarez, meanwhile, is
playing the lead in the Toronto version of the Broadway musical
"Hairspray."
Kimberley Locke, from season two, is climbing
the charts with her debut LP, Joshua Gracin has a June release
scheduled and Kimberly Caldwell recently signed with Randy Jackson
and songwriter Diane Warren's new label.
" 'American Idol' is a great
vehicle to get you in front of people," Gray said backstage at
Wednesday's finale, where she was ushered from one major media
outlet to another. "You don't really lose. There's no such thing.
That's the beauty of it."
The
finalists from season three (minus Matt Rogers and Leah LaBelle)
will spend their summer on the "American Idol" tour, but you can bet
Fantasia and Diana DeGarmo won't be the only ones sneaking in studio
time and auditions.
In fact,
JPL has something up his sleeve: Jon Peter Lewis has Broadway and
big-screen aspirations, but his first priority is finishing an
album. "I'm doing a lot of song writing," he said. "And I'm laying
down some tracks, mostly in my own home recording studio for now.
And then later on, who knows, we'll see."

'I Made It' Declares Tearful
'Idol' Winner Fantasia Barrino HOLLYWOOD — Simon Cowell called Fantasia Barrino's final
performance during Tuesday's "American Idol" competition her
"acceptance speech," but it was her actual acceptance speech
Wednesday that will forever be remembered.
After a long
embrace with runner-up Diana DeGarmo, and with tears rushing down
her face, the raspy 19-year-old singer looked at host Ryan Seacrest
and declared, "I broke my shoe!''
"That's what's so great
about her," Cowell said later Wednesday (May 27). "She's so normal.
But let's be honest, she also has an astonishing voice."
Few
will argue with that, as the High Point, North Carolina, native
emerged from near elimination twice to become the clear favorite in
the later weeks and heading into the finale. The judges all but
crowned her Tuesday, with Cowell calling her the best singer of any
"Idol" competition in any country.
Still, Seacrest said
before Wednesday's two-hour extravaganza that the victor won by a
margin of just over 1 percent. Producers said 65 million votes were
cast — up from 24 million last season — after phone lines were kept
open an additional two hours and extra numbers were added to counter
logjams and busy signals that have called voting procedures into
question .
By winning, Barrino earned a million-dollar
record deal, which had the singer still in tears backstage a few
hours later.

Jasmine Trias exits
'American Idol', Fantasia Barrino and Diana DeGarmo to compete in
final showdown In Tuesday's
penultimate performance episode of American Idol, each of the three
remaining contestants performed three songs -- one of her own
choosing, one chosen by the Idol judges, and one selected by this
week's guest judge, veteran music producer Clive Davis. Then, during
Wednesday's live results show, it was announced that Jasmine Trias
was eliminated from the American Idol competition.
On
Tuesday, Jasmine sang " Mr. Melody," "Saving All My Love For You"
and "All By Myself." The tenth finalist to be eliminated from the
competition, Trias will return to her hometown of Mililani, Hawaii.
As a result, a competition that began with over 70,000
auditioners is now down to its last two finalists: Fantasia Barrino
and Diana DeGarmo -- one of whom will be the next American Idol. The
dueling divas will battle it out live from the renowned Kodak
Theatre in Hollywood, CA, on Tuesday, May 25 (8-9 PM ET/PT).
Viewers will then have four hours (up from the usual two) to
cast their vote for their favorite contestant after Tuesday's
performance show. On Wednesday, May 26 (8-10 PM ET/PT), the newest
American Idol will be crowned before thousands of fans and millions
of television viewers.
Kicking off the finale week is a
one-hour special, American Idol: The Phenomenon, which will take a
look at how this series has grown into the Adults 18-49
demographic's top-rated show for the 2003-2004 season. The special
will look back at the past three seasons - how it all began and how
the show has captured the nation's attention. American Idol: The
Phenomenon will air on Sunday, May 23 (9-10 PM ET/PT) on
FOX

Second 'American Idol 3' vote stunner: LaToya
London out, while three teens remain Is this
really American Idol 3 -- or is it really American Juniors 2?
In a second shocker, 24-year-old La Toya London, who was the
odds-on favorite of both the judges and the betting public to win
Idol 3, was instead ousted by vote of the American public after the
May 11 "Disco Night" show. LaToya becomes the ninth of the 12
finalists to be voted off the show by the American public, and all
three of the remaining contestants are teenaged women ... uh, girls
... uh, betwixt and between.
LaToya, who followed a dull
performance of the BeeGees' "Love You Inside Out" with a very strong
performance of Thelma Houston's "Don't Leave Me This Way" that
earned rave reviews, was joined in the bottom two vote-getters by
19-year-old Fantasia Barrino, the judges' and bettors' second
choice, who delivered a great rendition of Amii Stewart's "Knock on
Wood" but then misfired on Bonnie Tyler's non-disco "Holding Out for
a Hero" from the movie Footloose.
LaToya's boot recalls the
untimely boot earlier in Idol 3 of the third member (with LaToya and
Fantasia) of the show's "Three Divas": Jennifer Hudson. In that
episode, the other two members of the "bottom three" were LaToya and
Fantasia. Following the result, Idol guest judge Elton John
described Idol voting as "incredibly racist." We wonder what Elton
will have to say about LaToya's ouster, since he had said that he'd
give her a record contract "straight away" during his
appearance.
