Julie Crystal Peña, turned fifteen years old in October 2001, and is already acclaimed as a prodigy of the Paraguayan harp.  She began studying this magical musical instrument at the age of eight under the direction of the notorious Paraguayan maestro Pedro Gaona.  In addition to acquiring her own unique style, Julie has learned other techniques of the harp with another renowned Paraguayan maestro, Silvio Solis.

Besides playing the harp, Julie also studies piano at the prestigious Levine School of Music in Washington, D.C., under Mr. Gregory Sioles. This training, in addition to her ability to compose music, allows her to play music on the harp that has never been played before.  Her repertoire is comprised of all types of music.

She has been described by The Washington Post as “phenomenal” and by the Washington Times as “amazing.”  Julie has the ability to bring an entire congregation to tears of joy when she performs sacred music, or to create a jubilant mood when she plays rhythmic music at celebratory receptions.  She has performed before huge crowds as well as intimate gatherings and before highly notable figures, both Government officials and artists.  Through TV appearances since age nine, Julie has been gaining much exposure and recognition.  She has won numerous awards and distinctions.  In July 1999, Julie performed for 40,000 people on the Royal Bank Stage at the Pan-American Games, held in Winnipeg, Canada.

In 1998, at eleven years old, Julie recorded a Christmas CD album, which includes a composition of her own entitled “Road to Bethlehem.” The following year, Julie recorded another CD album of world mix.  Recently, she released a third CD of sacred music on the harp.  Her arrangements are unique and very beautiful.
