January 2005

This Universe should be online around January 2005. While we do know exactly what we want to do here, the problem comes from the fact that TBCB-V2 might or might no be available at that moment.

So the question is: Will we begin with V1 only to go with V2 a few weeks/months later or will we delay the start of this universe for some time?

Will have to make a final decision around mid-December, I guess.

A WORD FROM
OUR PARTNER

"Hello, my name is Justin. I'm only 22 days old on this pic but I'm already over the 10-pound mark; No kidding, I'm targeting the HW division for the first day I will go to school. Meanwhile, not counting my Grandpa, I'm the only owner of this joint".

100% Surrealistic

(Halifax Cyberspace, December 27th, 2004) For some people, it never happens during their entire life; For some others, it happens almost frequently; But for most human beings, it happens only on very rare occasions. I'm referring here to those moments in life when what is currently undergoing seems to be so strange and/or so amazingly unreal that our first question to ourselves is: "Is it really real?! Or am I simply dreaming? Gee... I'm sure just dreaming -- I hope!". That kind of confusing phenomenon squeezed instantly some 592 people in Halifax tonight at the Forum Arena. Now This Is a Long Night!

(Montreal Cyberspace, December 20th, 2004) Remember that first card of boxing in the HWP back to mid-November in Montreal? Those 13 rounds of boxing through six bouts? Well, this second card in Montreal was quite different: 51 rounds of hard work -- out of a possible max of 54! Pancho Sanchez was there, read his story here...

Power Failures, Ice Storm and Five Inches of Snow

(Mississauga Cyberspace, December 13th, 2004) Now, this is the kind of boxing night any fan should avoid at all costs. Not because of the bouts, mind you, but because of the bad weather. Actually, a total nightmare! Pancho Sanchez was there, read his story here...

The Phantom Punch and the Draw

(Drummondville Cyberspace, December 6th, 2004) Two big stories this week in Drummondville as the action resumed in the HWP. Won't tell you much here about them but I guess that the above title might give you some clue anyway... Pancho Sanchez was there, read his story here...

Just Inverse the Numbers:
From 13 to 31...

(Halifax Cyberspace, November 22nd, 2004) If you're a big believer in numerology, you will obviously notice that a radical change occured from last week to the current one: some 31 rounds of boxing, as opposed to 13 the previous week, were needed to allow six Jungle_Gym's fighters to get their first win in the HWP at the Halifax Forum Arena. But the question probably is: Is it really an improvement of any kind? Pancho Sanchez was there, read his story here...

Ladies and Gentlemen...
13 Big Rounds of Boxing!

(Montreal Cyberspace, November 15th, 2004) I'm not sure whether that first card featuring the Jungle_Gym's fighters was successful or not, but only 892 fans showed up at Maurice-Richard Arena in Montreal. Moreover -- little annoyance -- only 13 rounds of boxing through six fights. Actually, five KOs and one TKO, all for Snouck's staff. Now, much more could be said about that mysterious event that happened to Old Dutch, who apparently died for at least six seconds -- up to 20 according to some sources --, and one of his fighters, Ranger Bonin who, by the way, was involved into the only decent fight of the night while he faced another local guy, Stephane Peineau from Sorel. Now Almost Ready to Go...

(Montreal Cyberspace, November 5th, 2004) Less than ten days now and we will be ready to go, some of our guys will at last make their debut in the HWP. Meanwhile, let's see briefly what happened at the Jungle_Gym in the last couples of weeks...

1) Small changes

Two small changes on how the HWP Universe will work: First of all, we will have 631 active fictional fighters for Year I of this project: 44 from the Jungle_Gym, 439 tomato cans, 118 legitimate 1-rated guys and 30 2-rated boxers. All those guys (minus the Jungle_Gym's) have had a few fights (from 1 to 12) in the last days. More on this in Point 3; Then, a little change as for the Rankings in the HWP for Year I: the fighters will get ranked based on their winning percentage, with some adjustments taking into account the number of fights for each fighter. If you want to know more on this, just give a look at The HWP in 12 rounds and scroll down to the bottom of the page - easy to find, the updated text is colored.

2) The HWP section (right column) activated

The links in the right column on our Main Page will lead you to the four sections directly related to the HWP: Schedule, Results, Rankings and Venues. Lots of info available there. An interview with Old Dutch Van Ginkell is also published in the Venues section. Amongst other things, you will learn there that we will have four monthly cards, always held on Monday nights: Drummondville in week 1, Mississauga (near Toronto) in week 2, Montreal in week 3 and Halifax in week 4. First card in Montreal next week, on November 15th (which is the third Monday of the month). Back to the right column on the Main Page: Keep on scrolling down and you will also find all our 44 fighters listed. Click on any name to reach one's web page.

3) Leon Carducci in the number 1 slot

More than 560 fictional fighters in the HWP land saw some action in the last days. Some of them with only a few fights, others fighting as much as 10 to 12 times. Leon Carducci, born in Italy but living for years in Buffalo, USA, is in slot number one with a perfect 13-0 record (9 KOs). Actually, all guys in the Top-10 have undefeated records with 10 wins or more, most of them by KOs. In fact, seven of those fighters are 2-rated guys. Of course, some cans found their way into the Top-100. It's simply that they faced only other cans and they have been lucky. Moreover, don't forget that there are 439 tomato cans in this Empire and not all of the 118 legitimate 1-rated boxers and 30 2-rated ones have had enough fights to qualify in the Top-100 anyway. The Rankings are there, as well as some pics of the best fighters.

4) A first Card in Montreal on November 15th

French Canadian Jean Morlo (23 years old), Sandy Toutou (28) born in India, French Canadian Ranger Bonin (25), North Korean Winston Crevette (25) as well as Americans Elston Scale (27) and Stanley Drexxon (25) will be the first Jungle_Gym's fighters to make their debut in the HWP on November 15th at the Maurice-Richard Arena in Montreal. While young Morlo seems already a little bit nervous, sounds like the five others don't feel anything really special at this time. Said Drexxon: "We know for a fact that we will have to face only cans for some months. I have had some 60 fights in the Amateur ranks (note: actually, 58, going 51-5-2), so I don't see why I would suddently have to get nervous only because I have to fight against a can. Not that I want to sound disrepectful, but I wish I could do some real fighting as soon as possible." Well, Stanley, you probably should make sure to add a few easy wins to your record in the first place; No one will think of offering you an eventual championship bout if your record is something like 26-13 in six or seven years from now only because you would just have fought decent and good opponents...

What Is This Website About?
1) Promoting all kinds of fictional fighters we manufacture here at the Jungle_Gym and making them available, mostly via Corner Work where our friend Gunsmoke/Mark does an outstanding job; 2) Offering some help and presenting some ressources to those who would eventually be interested in creating their own fictional fighters in the future; 3) Giving here some exposure to two fictional universes we will be running in the months to come (see left and right columns) where the Jungle_Gym and their fighters are massively involved. > Pierre from Montreal
Title Bout Championship Boxing
For those who are coming here from nowhere or almost mistakenly... let's say that this website refers to a game called Title Bout Championship Boxing (TBCB). There's a Forum where users discuss the game and real world boxing. Additionally, you might want to visit Corner Work, a fansite dedicated to the game where lots of free downloads and several articles are available to help gamers in creating their boxing universes -- based whether on real or fictional fighters. That said, the game has currently no career/management mode to offer. An upcoming version should eventually take care of that, though.

SNOUCK'S STABLE
Glorious Days Ahead?
So Snouck "Old Dutch" Van Ginkell is ready to manage brilliantly the career of his 44 fighters, here at the Jungle_Gym. He's even ready to lead all of them to a piece of that glory they all deserve...

"Ho! Hey! Wait a minute!", almost shouted Snouck. "About half of my staff is just half a step over the tomato can level! What are you trying to do?! Make people believe that we have nothing but champs here?!"

Oh well... Sorry, Snouck. Actually, we were trying to say that the first year of this project shouldn't be that hard on our fighters' bodies and psyches. Does it sound any better? "Hmmmm... I'm not even 75% sure of that..."

Sounds like Snouck is a little bit nervous now that his soldiers are on their way to get into the action -- Unless he's maybe a little bit too old now to keep on dealing with the pressure... Anyway, have a look at our guys' web pages...
