Welcome to Kaktovik! Whether you're here for just one night as a part of a longer trip or here for an extended stay, you'll definitely want to take a short trip out of town to see what the nearby region has to offer!

Kaktovik is one of the best places in the world to see polar bears, and is also a top-notch birding destination. Numerous historical sites exist in the area around town which showcase the native history of far-north Alaska. Our town of 300 people would love to show you around!

Note: On any excursion from Kaktovik, it is highly recommended that you wear warm clothes and a hat, and probably bring along some rain gear. It's very windy on the boats!

What can I see?

  • At Sea - Polar Bears, Seals and maybe a Whale!
  • On Land - Historical Sites, Caribou, Arctic Fox.
  • In the Air - Arctic Terns, Snow Geese, Ducks and many more.
