In 1988, George & Marie Colbow ordered a Cedar log home kit from B&H Cedar Log Homes.  The log home kit was delivered that year to their home in North Carolina.  With the exception of foundation/concrete work, heating system, shingles, septic and carpeting the log home construction was by George, Marie, their son Ron, other family members and friends.  Ron went on to graduate from high school and college, married Susan Jones and moved to Virginia.

Ron & Susan contacted B&H in the Spring of 1999 - and the design of their dream log home began.  Below are excerpts taken from the log home construction drawings prepared by B&H Cedar Log Homes.

If you are thinking about building your log home or acting as the general contractor, possibly the most popular book on the subject is, "Log Homes Made Easy: Contracting and Building Your Own Log Home."  Click here and you will be taken to Amazon.com where you find more information on the book and you can place an order.  If you are doing serious research, Click here and you will be taken to a complete list of Amazon.com's books on log homes.  Construction of the log home kit was by Steve Hartman Log Home Construction.

On the pages that follow, you will find the photo journal of Ron & Susan's experience building their dream log home.  The log home construction would have been a far greater challenge except for major help from Ron & Susan's parents and both of Susan's sisters and their husbands.
