REBOOT II

Another Story Contest

So, I have a Problem...

I have been writing stories for awhile now and I think I'm pretty good at it.  I've written tales set in Metamor Keep and The Blind Pig.  Like just about everyone who writes in our little fandom, there comes a time when you find yourself creating yet another sandbox for everyone to play.

I went ahead and created TWO.

Of course, so far I've been playing all by my lonesome.  That isn't as fun as you might think.  Since I had such a grand time with REBOOT, I decided to hold another.  Only this time the theme would be the two new Universes I created, Two-by-Fours & Lost Souls.

Write a story set in either universe and win a prize!

Two-by-Fours:

Magic and science rule this universe.  The Earth here is populated with normal humans and... others who seek to make their bodies into a better reflection of their souls.  Species Dysphoria is all the rage.  Bipedal and quadapedal zoomorphs with multiple forms are an accepted, if rare, part of modern society, and interpersonal relationships can get very strange indeed.

Lost Souls:

A plane explodes over the Brazilian rain forest.  The 100 people presumed dead, are NOT dead but transformed into creatures based on their last thoughts before the plane explodes.  The experience has left many with somewhat altered mental conditions.  The survivors are somewhat prone to whimsy and childlike moments, although a few never suffer from this.    To make matters more complicated, each survivor may unknowingly be altering other nearby survivors.

Stage one of the Lost Souls is currently in effect.  In other words, populating the universe with its 100 Lost Souls and getting many (but not more than half) in one place.   Search and attempted rescue missions are acceptable, but the bulk of the Lost Souls can not be rescued or discovered.  Lost Souls may have interesting encounters with the local tribesmen, if you're willing to do some research.  Bonus points for research!

WINNERS:

Yes, there are Winners!  The prizes are more or less the same here as for Reboot I.   I'm waiting for addresses at this time.  Winners outside the USA will have to help me figure out something.

First Place: 100 comic books randomly selected from my personal collection OR $25 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble.

Boss Hoss' BUFF

Second Place: (TIED) 50 comics randomly selected from my personal collection or $10 @ Barnes and Nobles.

Wanderer's INNOCENCE

Erastus Centaur's THE WRITING LESSON

Third Place:  5 SF and/or Fantasy paperback novels, also randomly selected from my collection, assuming I get that many entries.

Volk Olboroten's THE FELINE DECEPTION

ENTRIES:

Entries should be sent to me via email.  They can be text or Word .doc attachements or inline in the email.

Entries will be posted below as they arrive.  Your story does not have to be judged "cannon" to enter, but you do get bonus points for that.  I do ask that you refrain from adding your "personna" to either universe if you are the type who can not trust others to write about "you."

Artists should not feel left out!  You can create art based on the stories from Reboot I and I will simply treat it as another contest with the same prizes.

Deadline for the contest is PAST!

WE HAVE WINNERS!

(Sorry for the delay, holidays, you know...)

Summer 2001: The first Reboot contest winners.
What a self-centered guy I am.
The first Reboot's theme was literally "REBOOT ME!"  As it turns out there are lots of transformations I like reading about but that I can not simply write about.  I asked for stories about me being turned into different things.
The following people came to my rescue:

FIRST PLACE (tied): Sideshow Lew's
Amidst the Mists and Coldest Frosts
FIRST PLACE (tied): Feech's
GREYFLANK
Second Place: Boss Hoss's
2 Sides of a Mustang
Third Place: Rochndil's
Mistaken Identity
